Mpg Restest complete
As most of you guys may know I tested to see how many miles i'd get out of my es300 for 1 full tank till the empty light first appears..
1st test: The car went 270 miles on one tank. Knowing the gas tank is 18.5 gallons and the light comes on with 2 gallons remaining that gave me 16.3 Miles per Gallon, and the car was driven roughly 80% highway and 20% city..Pretty Bad
Intermission: I decided to use the BG fuel injection cleaner and run it through the brake booster line. Ran the car for about 10 min while it used up all the cleaner. Black smoke was abundant out the exhaust, so we can safely say something worked.
2nd test: The car went 335.5 miles on the tank till the gas light appeared. With all calculations it comes out to about 20.3 MPG which is a significant jump IMO. Still not the best, but any improvement is better than no improvements right?
Anyway, Chevron 89 octane was used in both tests, my next test is going to be with 91 chevron. Stay tuned on this Es300s quest for better MPG

how much injector cleaner did you pour down the line? And can i just use my pcv opening instead? Also did you just pour and drive? or pour and idle? or pour and kill, then restart 15 mins later? Ack.... so many questions.

Yeah im pretty sure u can run it through the pcv line but the brake booster line is much easier to get to IMO, i let the car idle as the fluid is used up slowly (it was one can) u can find it on bgprod.com , and when it was all done, i let the car idle for 5 more mins before i rev'd it and took it for a test drive.

Mkay, a few final things, do you just put the hose in the can and let it suck it up by itself, or do your pour using a funnel? Also, what is the big differences between this stuff and seafoam, in your opinion?

I have never used seafoam but i hear a lot about how it can ruin plugs and what not, so I just decided to stay away from all the headaches with that.

You should calculate it by how many miles since your last fill up divided by how many gallons went in. That would be more accurate. Instead of saying there is 2 gallons left when the light comes on. For part 2 of your test, thats cool tho
Weird my Solara gets kinda crappy mileage too. But the ES aveages like 28 mix. Both have an 18.5 tank.
Does bg make a machine for that. I know they make coolant and tranny flush machines, dont know about fuel injection stuff though

hmm interesting....Ill look into that calculation method
No its not a machine, its just a thing that holds the can and punctures it from the bottom and runs it thru a hose into the car

oooooooh ok I think youll find out you mpg #s will be better using that method and i only say that cuz my idiot light comes on whenever it feels like it say 1/4 tank or less. hills or whatever makes gas move away from the pickup. and when i fill up only like 13 or 14 gallons go in. Anyways keep us posted and btw your ES300 looks really good!

Thanks!!! Honestly I wish I had a 92-93 manuals, i cant imagine how fun that would be to drive......Yeah ill do use that method in my next test.
I have to retest the 89 octane with your method then do the 91 octane test also to have an accurate difference between the two using the same method of calculations
