Hi - newbie to this forum and was hoping to hear any experiences out there with replacing the lift supports for a 94 ES300 hood. I've obtained inexpensive ($32 each) aftermarket replacements from Kragen here in Northern California and have been able to replace the "passenger side" lift-support (after some careful clearance issues with some sort of electronic device).

I'm having difficulties though replacing the "drivers-side" lift support as there appears to be another bracket which is fused to the bracket on the "lower" side of the lift support. I've tried prying this off with a screwdriver as the other bracket LOOKS like a separate piece which is only held together with a spot weld (or paint?). But for the life of me, it won't come apart .

Am I stuck having to go to Lexus for the part? Any suggestions out there?

I found the same thing when I replaced the hood support struts on my '93 ES300.
The aftermarket driver's side strut did not have the same bracket attached to it as the original OEM strut. The bracket on the lower part of the OEM strut had an attachment to secure a small wiring harness in that area of the engine bay so I didn't consider it a big problem that the replacement strut did not have this. The new struts function fine without it, and there is no issue concerning any wiring either.

Thanks! But 1 additional question....

How were you able to remove the existing strut bracket/wiring-harness bracket before replacing with the aftermarket strut? I'd like to bolt the wiring harness back using the same bolt if possible.
