If its not cold anymore you need a recharge; however unless you have a leak or the system has been opened up before, you should never need a recharge. Second, if you have a pre-94 you will need to convert from R-12 to R-134, because R-12 is very hard if not impossible to get.. What year is your car? The conversion kit will come with all the new fittings, refrigerant, oil, etc.... Should be less than 50 bucks or so but im tellin ya check for leaks or you will always have to recharge..
Most importantly make sure the front of your A/C condensor is spotlessely clean, and it is normal for low cold air output when idling in traffic because you have less airflow hitting the front end of the car. My 92 never blows cold unless you are at cruising speed. Also your cowl (where the wipers rest) needs to be kept clean of leaves and ****. Hope this helps

Thanks alot, it helped alot. I have a 93 ES but I havent found any leakes. One thing for sure is that it doesnt get cold at cruising speed nor at idle speeds. It just blows. It hasnt gotten too hot yet so Ill find time to figure out the problem. Thank God the heat still works.

I had my 92 nx2000 with r12 recharged to r134a
you need to use vaccuum to extract old stuff out, shop will do it, its an important step, and fill it up with r134a didn't leak no problems ice cold.
also if all your stuff got out you can check it by pressing something against one of the pressure valves if nothing comes out you got no freon, meaning you have a major leak

trace your AC lines to the condensor in front of the radiator (or near it) and turn your ac on. if you se bubbles, your low on R-12. if you see nothing, you nighthave a blockage or a bad exspansion valve. make sure the components are good befor eyou just throw $$$ into freon. over here in okinawa, they have a refrigerent that you put in that mixes with the R12 and doesnt need to be vacuumed out. great stuff!!!! but just like really fast twin turbo, should have been the USDM ISXXX series toyotas , the US of A bans it... how sad
