Special Order 2002 ES300
Has anyone ever placed a Special Order (custom build) for Lexus through a dealership?
If yes, how did you track production from beginning to end (e.g. internet, customer service) ?
A Special Order means they build the car wiht the option you request. Production takes 2-4 months.
A Preference Order means the dealer get the car from another dealer.

Special Order
Special orders are usually reserved for something that isn't in the "regular" production cycle, like a car with no sunroof or something. The other option you have is for your dealer to try "order" your car, which means they may just have to wait until one like it shows up in their allocation, or in a neighboring dealership that doesn't have a "hold" on it already. As far as tracking it yourself goes, I wouldn't expect to be able to do that. Your dealer will most likely be the only reference point for where your car is at a particular point in time.
