97 ES300 with 134k for $6k, Good deal?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking at a 97 ES300 White on Tan with 134,000 miles. The asking price is $6,000. The overall condition is good, it has a few scratches here and there. A small ding in the passenger rear door and on the gas tank lid. Also it looks like the previous owner backed into something. The fenders, doors, hood, and trunk all match the VIN.
It's leaking oil. I had my mechanic look at and he said it would be about $650 to fix. The Lexus dealer said like $1,500. Should I worry that this is a sign of possible oil gelling?
Is this a good price? In my area, people like to overprice ES300s like crazy. This one seems like a steal. I'm thinking of offering $5,000 and then working my way up.
KBB Value
Excellent: $7,115
Fair: $6,495
Poor: $5,685
Thanks in advanced.

I just paid $5500 for a 1997 ES300 in great shape, no damage and loaded...I thought it was a screaming deal myself...I love the car too, except for a slight vibration which I think is motor mounts...Not sure...Been cruising for a week and could not find a better deal...
I would say get it for $5000 and it's a good deal...

i paid 9,000 for my 00 es300 with 54k on it..just to give u an idea of where a newer one might stand to help u decide. 6k does sound like an ok deal. but like u said start at 5k and work up

Beside price , the previous owner is very important . I bought my 1997 from an old lady and she was the only owner . She kept it very clean and still looks like a new . If single owner and well kept I will not mind paying 6000 for that car, otherwise less than 5500 . Thats I think

6k with 134k miles is not a super great deal but it is a very very fair price for the car, you would not be getting rippd off if u bought it.
for arguements sake I would complain about the oil leaking even though (this is very common with the v6 toyota engines) but at $650 to fix I'd try to get the price down a few more hundred start at $5500 ...even if u end up spending 5800 u still got a decent deal

I ended up passing on the car. The guy wouldn't admit to the oil leak problem and kept on saying it had something to do with power steering. I researched the car and found out it had been into the local Lexus dealer for the oil leak before, so I had proof. So, my search continues.
