i don't know what year your car is but my '97 ES300 has a stock subwoofer that is 4 ohm so you might want to check that out. as far as rms, i have an aftermarket 125 rms amp hooked up to mine and it handles it fine.

Its weak, not enough to power that sub efficiently. I think stock is 4ohm or 2ohm, I forgot. I was also gonna go that route, but decided to go with a few others advice and just go for a single 10" in a box, and a mono amp.
I have atleast 90% of my trunk still usable which is a big deal for me

as it has been said, no way with the 8ohm.. really nothings your gonna get in the free air will sound great with the stock amp and settings, now you move up to a $200 mono amp, $150 sub and $50 box its gonna sound good, but then you got another $50 for amp hook up kit, and thats if you do the work yourself.. .. ..
Kinda depends on what you want..

too much work. Believe pioneer has a 8 in free air sub, know they have a 10", but you'd need a new amp.

I had that same problem. However I got that fixed. I have a 98 es and the sub is 2ohms. My factory amp was fried so I went to bought a $120 aftermarket hu and got found a new infinity basslink 10" sub with built in amp for $99 (got lucky). The system sounds great. Very little amount of rattle from the back panel except when I'm listening to music with hard hitting bass. Other than that it's great. I still have 95% or my trunck space. I'll take some pictures and post it later. At work and can't do it now.
