Pinging shouldn't ever happen with 87 octane or better in a normal engine; the engine computer controls timing and won't advance it too much for the gas used. The main difference is the available power. A conservative driver may not notice any difference in performance; but if you accelerate hard, you'll notice a big difference between premium and regular. Gas mileage can be better with premium, but the difference, if any, depends on how you drive. I don't think its a matter of what the car "deserves", it's the performance you want to get out of the car that counts. By the way nyes300, "detonation" is what allows engines to run; it's "predetonation" that can cause damage.

I use Premium since my dealer recommended it. I think it says use it as well in the owner's manual.

I used to put 91 in my white ES every week when I still had $$.. Now I only use 87 on the Gray/purple ES.
I was gonna try 100, but it was like h3lla expensive. Anyway my motor would beg for more octane and I wouldn't want it like that.

I now have to change my opinion i was using 91 for a few months now. I just tried a week ago the sunoco 93 octane and i do notice a big diffence in pick up and a slight diffence in top end speeds.

I put premium in my 92 ES....let alone newer ones...

Try some race gas, the higher the octane, the better your car WILL perform with higher fuel economy.

these cars where built to run off premium gas,

whether or not u feel the difference in performance or not, the person who uses 87 octane will have a shorter engine life over time

87 & 89 octane is not clean enough

91 octane? I havent seen that in NY or NJ since like the 80's where do you guys live?

93 or 94 is the way to go

I use 93 all the time. I rather spend the extra few buck and know that I am not burning any garbage.

The ES300 is made for regular octane gas,but yes I still use premium,
it really should not matter what octane rating you use as long that it is "Top Tier" gas,Top Tier gas will prevent carbon build up on your intake valves because it contains special detregents, which means that it will save you money on repairs!!

I have a 1996 ES 300 with 270K miles on it. I used to put the premium unleaded gas but I just use Chevron regular unleaded gas now. She still runs like a champ...

I ran regular unleaded in my ES300 for 10 years, when doing tune-up the plugs looked brand new, when doing the timing belt and valve cover gaskets- it all looked brand new.

dont waste your money

Every once in a while I will fill it up with premium and open it up on the freeway just to burn out anything that might be built up.
