Engine Racing at Idle and Shifts hard when driving
Hi All!! Hopefully someone can help. I have a 2001 Lexus ES300 and my engine is Idling between 2 and 3 on the RPM gauge. Sometimes it even races up and down from 2,000 - 3,500 rpms when idling....continuously going up and down. I took it to my mechanic and we hooked it up to the Computer. He thought it was the Throttle position sensor but the code was related to the IAC and I had that replaced. It seemed to solve the problem for 3 weeks and now it is racing again. Also, when stopped the engine is revving and wanting to go. If I put it in neutral the engine races badly and in park. I also noticed that it feels as though , when going 20 - 50, that the engine is shifting up and down. Has anyone else experienced this problem or heard of anyone that has. Your help would be greatly appreciated

Hey Pheonix... Thanks for responding. I had the IAC replaced and it worked well for a while but now it is doing the same thing. How do you check the calibration of the TPS sensor. (I am assuming that is the Throttle Position Sensor????) Have you had this problem before?? Is this common??
