Default Air Conditioner Flood

Here's one I've not experienced in 35+ years of automobile ownership.

1997 ES300 with 148,000 miles, excellently maintained. Live in MD. Lately it's been VERY HOT (95+F) & very humid. When using the a/c, the passenger compartment floor gets SOAKED with water. SOPPING WET!!! The front passenger side as well gets wet. This is not a "weatherstripping" leak (my first thoughts).

Tonight, with family in car on a hot and humid evening, drove the car and used the a/c in the rain to dehumidify. While the a/c is in use, the floor of the passenger compartment becomes a small low pressure system (meteorological metaphor) and several towels must be used to soak up the water after a 15-25 mile drive when we get home. Not good at all.

We have identified that the cause is the a/c when we use it. This is obviously a problem! Has anybody experienced this, and what is the cause? Is this something I can repair myself? Need help before the bottom falls out!!! I have an OBD II code reader and get a "NO CODES" when reading the on-board computer. I am also extremely capable of performing car repairs as I do most of the maintanance myself. Help!!!!!

The evaporator drain is clogged. You can sometimes unclog it by getting under the car and running a snake up the drain tube.

Red face Air Conditioner Flood: RESOLVED

Thanks for the tip on the evaporator drain plug. I changed the oil and filter, checked the tire pressure, and got under the car to complete the prep for my wife's trip to Pittsburgh. Clipped a coat hanger and measured off and marked one inch increments. I inserted it into the drain ~8in or so, and Wholaaa! At first a trickle. I teased it bit more and there must have been a 20 second flood of water that came rushing out. I estimate it was at least a gallon!

Needless to say, problem resolved. Trip went well and the a/c works great (again). My wife thanked me too (but this is not the forum) Thanks!!!

Awesome, I have the same problem with my ES300. Can you tell me exactly where this drain is and what it looks like?

Cheers.

A rubber tube or hose about a half inch in diameter. Accessed from the right side, behind and inside the right front wheel. It protrudes out from the firewall.

Thanks, I still have trouble finding it looking down from an open hood.
Do I have to jack up the car and look underneath the firewall to find it?

Could you insert it more than 8 Inch? I tried on mine today and couldn't insert any further at about twice the length of the protuding hose.
