Just about everybody is saying that the '02 ES will have the best interior in its class by far. I agree. However, I was looking at some shots of the interior today and I noticed something that bothered me. The places around the switches for the door locks (front) and window controls (front and rear) have some sort of plastic around them. It looks terribly out of place, and it is just begging to have woodgrain around those areas. Maybe this is just a pre-production issue (unfortunately, I don't think it is), and the final models will have wood in those areas...

Default I agree look at #3

I hope that in the next year or two Lexus adds these items to the ES:

#1: More horsepower (min. 240 hp would be nice)

#2: New rims (I don't like the new ones; I like the 15" and 16" ones from the 2001 a lot better. At least give me an option for another sporty style rim like the new ones on the TL type-S) The TL had really ugly rims (IMHO) before now both the premium and Type-S have very nice rims.

At least give me the 16" rims from 2001. I know the ES is now tailored for luxury not sport but I just don't like busy rims on the 2002.

#3: Add the wood back to the switch plate on the door. I have it on my 2000 and my 1997 before that and I never scratch them. It just seems like something is missing when all I see is plastic there.

#4: If it's true that the stereo can not be controlled from the steering wheel, please add this feature. If someone can tell me for sure PLMK.

#5: Put the Michelin MX 4 tires back. My 97 had then and I liked them much better than the Dunlops I have now. I know it depends on dealers, but here in South Florida I never see Goodyear or Michelins on on the lot.

The only thing REALLY wrong with the ES300 interior is it's inside a REALLY ugly car!

...saw one on the road today - yuck.

Um, I'm not trying to be an ***, but have you actually driven/ sat inside of the '02 ES? The previous ES interiors are almost truck-like in comparison (I mean absolutely disrespect to '90-'01 ES owners).

Question

I own a 96 and perhaps they have already taken care of this situation, but I thought I'd ask anyway: Did they redesign the interior so that you can actually use the cupholder and power source at the same time??? It is SO annoying that I can't have my radar detector plugged in and enjoy my BIGGEE soda at the same time.

I believe they have addressed that. I think now they slide out of the center console.
