Default Sun roof leak 1996 ES300

Any help would be greatly appreciated. At higher speeds, I can hear an air leak in the sun roof coming from the back of the sun roof(towards rear of car). When I go through a pressure car wash or hard rain, I can feel moisture in the gap. No severe leak yet-but I would like to know how to fix it. Thank you!

Default Been there, done that

I have a '96 and experienced both of the problems you are talking about. For the sunroof, buy some shims from your Lexus Dealer - they come in two thicknesses and you'll need two for each side. Install the thinnest ones first and see if that works. If not, remove them and install the thicker ones. (There's a thread on here somewhere that shows how to install them). The best I remember you just open the sunroof and pop out the plastic piece on each side of the frame that runs from the front to the back of the sunroof. This will expose two bolts - just loosen the bolts, install the shims, retighten the bolts and pop the plastic piecees back on. As for the wind noise from the window, it's usually not the rubber molding - it's probably due to the window being "warped" from using it to close the door. I replaced the rubber molding thinking it would cure the problem and it didn't help at all but you might try it and see if it works for you......

Cool

bsunder buy the shim kit as bsunder told you.
The channel / track / lip whatever always has water in it by design when wet. There are 4 drain holes (one in each corner). The rubber doesn't waterproof seal anything by design. It simplly re-directs the water flow into the channel. This is why Domestic sunroofs get old & leak, while 20 year old Toyota/Lexus sunroofs don't.
Take 20psi of compressed air & shoot it in the holes. They can clog with trash & *that's* when you experiance a leaking sunroof.
