i wonder why Toyota isn't bringing in Estima, im sure this car can beat the crap outta all the other Mini Vans out there !

Um, no. The lamps clearly mimick those of the LS430. They look nothing like the Estima's lights except for the fact that they are swept back.

I agree that it doesn't look exactly like a Lexus, but IMO it is only because they are changing the look of all of their cars. The old look of Lexus which i think i like better, is more what I think of when I think of Lexus. So these new more "Bubbleish" Lexus vehicles (LS430, SC430, ES300) fit together. Looking at the brochures I have for the last generation ES300, LS400 and the RX300 and GS300, I realize I really do miss the way they use to design cars.

I really couldn't tell from the familycar.com write-up and pics if the new ES has a fully-blown interactive shift feature or not. I would imagine that the zig-zig gate setup would make shifting out of of the question for normal (fun) driving. Also, it appears that only gears 2-4 are selectable. Am I wrong? If what I said actually is the case, Lexus could have saved themselves some trouble and gone with a standard straight-column shifter/gate.

They're VERY SIMILAR but not EXACTLY. If you look at the Estima lights from another angle, the Estima lights are slimmer and longer.

Compared to the Estima lights, the ES lightss are NOTHING like the LS. Where did you get that idea from?

I was comparing the lamps themselves (not the housings). Then I said that the ES's lights and the Estima's lights were similar in that they were swept back. It depends on the angle. In the picture I attached, look at the left headlight. It looks much more similar to the LS than to the Estima. Again, it depends on the angle. The angle of the 3 pics you posted showed that the ES and LS have totally different lights. You could find similarities between the ES and quite a few other cars, depending on how you look at it...

ahhhh.... i see.....you are talking about the lamps..... not the housing ...

then i suggest you to go take a look at all the low beam lens (HID lens) on RX, GS, IS, LS and this new ES.
they are all similar !

Thumbs up One word...sexy!

Very pleasing curves. Thanks for thos pics!!! One of these days (years?) my '93 SC400 will become the "second" car (how long for an antique/classic plate?) and by that time the ES will probably have all the refined qualities that, say, the GS has had for years.

To me, the ES has become the perfect sedan. Not SPORT sedan (GS) but a great, clean looking car. I like it and want one!!!

Camry will have the same bulbous and bubbly face as the ES but with more tradtional (and much better shaped) headlights. The front should actually look decent unlike its more upscale brother IMO. The rest looks darn good. very clean, unlike the ahum, and proportioned. Looks hugley long in this photo. I think Toyota did a better job of the Maxima tail lights on the new Camry.

DAMN! I'm still dissappointed in the new 2002 ES300. The 2002 ES300 will start to grow on me, but let's face it like many people say on here, no additional power and more interior enhancements, equals the ES300 is for OLD PEOPLE! Is this what I patiently waited for? 2003 Redesigned RX300 all the way and I hope Lexus is smart enough to boost some power in that engine.

At least give me 225HP out there. That is the bare minimum. All other competitors for 2002 will be around 255-260HP. The Nissan Altima even has 225 HP! And I don't even want to compare it to an ES300. Move the RX300 current engine of 220HP to this car if possible. So many options, but none implemented.

WTF? really sums it up. The styling look like a CAMRY SOLARA from the side, and the ES300 should really be distinctive. The Styling will eventually grow on me of course.

Wouldn't it be amazing if Lexus beefed up the horsepower for the 2003 model (even if only by 10HP) due to all the complaints from consumers for more power. Anything is possible these days especially in the 2nd model year of a new generation. Would **** a lot of people off buying the 2002 of course.

My 2 cents thrown in and still dissappointed. You optimists out there are great, but this car is still geared for OLD PEOPLE by Lexus.
