Default 20"s

Will a 20x8.5 rim with a 245/35r20 tire fit on a 95 es300 I don’t want them sticking out side the finder or rubbing on anything thanks

i just bought a set of 20's for my 94 es300 and looks nothing like a sidekick or none of that. I have 20 x 8.5 with a +43 offset.. my tire size is 255/35/20 and it just fine. The front fits fine and i can turn the steering wheel lock to lock no rub. the only prob i have is in the rear, the tread of the tire sits right on the bottom of the cup that holds the spring on the strut. the overall diameter is 27.0" which is too big. the tires i have on my factory wheels is 26.0". so my question is will a 245/35/20 clear that spot? I know a 225 will, but i want that as my last resort. now i have seen some es300 92-96 with the 245's but i dont know if they had that cup im talking about pushed up. how do you go about pushing that up so i dont have to buy new tires. if not will the 245 clear?

the rims are not on the car right now because of the issue i discussed above. if its possible to push that cup up i dont have to buy tires. otherwise gotta get new tires. but i can assure you it doesnt look bad To Me. I like it.

i had 18's on the car before i sold them to get these and they were just too doggone smedium. even if i would have had a drop an all that, i wouldnt have been content. im just used to big wheels. also i might not put the wheels on till spring that way i can come with brand new meat and possibly a spin kit.

i currently have the same problem but that is being resolved by the coilovers im having installed at 9:30 on friday. plus i can drop 3"+

even if i thought about coilovers just for the rear, arent they pretty expensive. the technique i found out for bending the strut up is heating it up with a torch and then bend it up. is that anywhere near safe.this is the first car i have had where this doggone cup was in the way.

no torching for me. 900+install for coilovers compaired to 600+install plus still have the front gap....yeah i went with coilovers.

And i can understand why this is the first car you are having issues with the cup being in the way.....the ES isnt made for running 20's.(its not 18's with 40 series and a 42 offset like mine hit that cup.

But thats cool. when you find something to let you fit those inside take pics! after you roll some fenders it would be interesting to see.

thats a nice chunk of change. i cant afford that at all(19 years old with a part time job.) cant do it.are you eager for me to post pics to actually see how nit looks, or to make me the new laughing stock like they did the hollywood chip guy. but a rim shop i went to today said they can make them fit for $150 which i think they wont do too much of nothing. i got under the car myself and have a lil idea. on the mounting flange of the strut where the 2 bolts slide through. what if i took off the rotor and redrilled the holes a little higher on the flange of the strut.that would get me the extra clearance im looking for. what ya think 3rd.

i wouldnt modify suspension parts. they are already under an extreme amount of load. The shop is probably going to add spacers and roll your fenders is what im thinking.

And the pics im just curious to see how you sit an es on 20's.

let us know what you end up doin.

i have 20X9 with a 225 35 zr20 and i have had a few problems with them.....the problem was that the rears would rub the fender whenever i hit hard bumps or had more than 3 ppl in the car. althought the front was perfectly fine, i could turn fully either way and not rub at all. so i rolled the fenders and got rid of that problem in the rear. then after a few months the fronts started to rub the fender. i assumed this is b/c my car is 10yrs old and my struts were getting old. so i ordered some tokico struts and installed them. STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. so i went to butler tire (a well known performance shop in ATL) and they said it was the springs. now i dont know what to do.....get the factory springs at a decent resisance lever or get the eibach 1.0 all the way around to drop it a little and increase resistance so that im not rubbing however everyone says that the eibach drop isnt noticeable. my goal is to let everyone know what ive run into with my spring/strut and rubbing issues. could anyone suggest a resolution to this problem or give me their input? also what about a 1.8inch drop in the front and 1.2 in the back. any input would be greatly appriciated.

intrax makes a spring like that. check ebay or google for the lexus or the camry ones.

so mgd are you saying that the 225/35/20 is the magic tire size i need to keep me from modifying. will the 245/35/20 work without messing with anything or would it still be too close to the strut cup. is your tire pretty much stretched on the rim or does the rim have decent coverage.

The ES is built off a compact / mid size platform so all of you 20" guys should go with a 30series tire if you want to lower nicely. Toyo T1-R is availible in 235/30-20.

225 on a 9" wheel is way stretched and without a aggressive drop, it just doesnt flow properly. There is also no way a 245/35-20 tire can flow properly on that car, its just way too much tire for that wheelwell. It doesnt look natural, especially on the 92-96 model.
