Default I need info on DIY clear tails for 1997 es300

Anyone know how to or has done clear tails for a 97' es300? Any suggestions? Are the amber lights fabricated through the lens, film or? Any info will be appreciated. All postings that I searched are not for my year! Thanks to all whom can assist.

I am not 100% sure, but I think remember someone opening up the tails only to find that the lens is tinted orange and that there is no insert; Basically, it wasn't possible for clear tails, you might have to go and get a pair of the 00-01's.

I tried to open up one of the tails on my 97, but the assembly deformed in the oven. The glue still was far from melted enough to crack it open, I think the glue is different in the 97 from others where people were successful in melting them open. I think the safest bet is to use a dremel tool to cut it open. I'm going to break open the deformed one and see if it's clearable as soon as I get a replacement assembly for it.

I talked to someone who tried clearing their 97 tails before and they said they cut them open, but that there is no insert in there to remove. In other words, you can't clear 97 tails. Can anyone else confirm this?

I was told the only way to get clear tails on 97-99 is to get the 00-01 tails, which are clear. Can anyone who has done this confirm that the 00-01 tails will fit into a 97-99 without modification?

If anyone can provide more info it would be much appreciated, thanks!

Yeah, I figured that out the hard way.

I thought I would cut them open with a dremel though. The question is, once I get them apart, is there an orange insert inside there that can be removed?
