I'm with Nixsun on this one. No way can you fully fit a standard screw into a metric thread. It sounds like you need an M8 screw to properly fit into the holes. M8 is about the equivalent to 5/16 numerically.

Of course, the other option is to helicoil the holes, mate the 5/16" screws in, and attach a thread lock, but that's a lot of machine work

The screws were machined not standard. They went in easily

I'm not sure if I did the final verdict on this wheel install thing but here goes. After all the crap of having them installed at pep boys (never again) and the process of testing them out for the entire week, I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to keep them after all. THe car feels different with the 18x8s. It rides alot more solid now and has a slightly more sporty ride. I've tossed it into a few turns and it just refuses to let go of the road. I've got too many complements well. The only downside all this is the weight of the SC430 rims slows the car down a bit. (something the V8 4.3 L takes care of easily on the SC430) The ES300 isn't as nimble (speed wise) as it is on the 15x6 Coach wheels. THe change isn't drastic just subtle. Very subtle. In the winter I'll change them back to the OEM wheels and at that time I'll have an update on this topic. For now, you'll find me with a few ladies in the back on my next upcoming pics. They seem to love this new setup! Enjoy

those guys are using 225/40/18 tires, im also pretty sure they both lowered their rides too

Okay, I know this thread is 9 years old, but my question is on topic, hopefully someone can offer some opinions/clarity.

I have acquired a set of these sc430 wheels, now I need to buy tires. I have been using an on-line tire calculator and have also been reading/searching threads on the forum for information about what size tire to put on this (sc430)wheel to be put on a 1998 es300?"

OE wheel&tire diameter (205/65/15) is 25.49inches/647.5mm--------the above recommended wheel&tire diameter (225/40/18) is 25.09inches/637.2mm
the diameter variance is a -.4"/10.3mm or -1.59% === meaning the 18" rims w/ tires are smaller than stock 15"w/tires,
---resulting in a spedo that reads 62mph when you are going 61mph, hardly an issue, right?---

Well, what about (225/45/18)?? wheel&tire diameter is 25.97"/659.7mm, resulting in a +.48"/12.2mm or +1.88% diameter variance === meaning now this 18"rim/tire combo is larger than stock 15"w/tires, so spedo reads 63mph when going 62mph, again not an issue there, right?

----if i went with these tires (225/45/18) set up I would gain about .45 inches/11.43mm in sidewall height (vs. 225/40/18)<>so a little more rubber to ride on and fill the fender gap, i am inclined to think that is a good thing, am i wrong?
----what is "better/worse"? (for the car, comfort, ride, etc..) to have the wheel/tire combo be slightly smaller than stock or slightly larger than stock?

am i over thinking this or should i just go with the size these other gentlemen used??

I've been running various sizes for years, you can't ever get a 'perfect' size when you go up in diameter.

If your within 3% rolling diameter its fine, the speedo thing is irrelevant... they're not 100% accurate out of the factory as well.

I never ventured with the 45-profiles, but the 40's I had SUCKED. Such a harsh ride, ruined it for me, and I sold them after one season, stepped down to 17s.

I don't know of anyone actually doing the 225/45/18 on these forums... sorry... Especially with the SC430's, you're bound to get the spacer no matter what.
