I just purchased 2000 ES300 Platinum - 95k miles. When lights are on and brake pedal pushed, I get the "Rear Light Failure Warning Light" on dash. But when I check the brake lights in the rear, I have one on each side lighting up correctly.

Are there two bulbs on each side possibly? Maybe one of the two on each side is burnt out? Ideas?

Thanks,

Wade

The 2 most likely causes are:

1) Your brake light bulbs are mismatched, relative to each other, or

2) The 3rd brake light (Behind the rear glass) is burned out.

Do yourself a favor and replace all the bulbs in the rear with the correct numbers - and clean the holders while you are in there. Including the license plate lights. I bet you will have no more problems

My 00 es300 has been in California its entire life until the last year I have been in the Seattle area. Now my 'rear light failure warning' light comes on every time I hit the brakes, but ONLY when my parking/headlights are on. Its got to be the humidity. Anyone have any idea how to make it go away?? Car has about 190k miles on it and runs like a champ, so its not a huge deal... just slightly annoying.

ithink i know what is your problem . first remove all your stop light bulbs and look for discoloration, replace any with with such color,2nd buy your third stop light bulb from the dealer. a wrong or after market bulb would create that condition. the lamp sensorisseeong too muchcurrent draw when you apply the brakes.

I have the same problem with my light failure on the dash. I thought it may be the blinker bulbs because they were flashing fast so I went and bought two new ones for the rear. That didn't fix my problem. I found out I need a new relay for my blinkers which cost $40... maybe I can find a cheaper one online.

But anyways I took out all the bulbs in the rear to make sure they weren't burnt out I had my girlfriend sit in the car turn on the lights, hit the breaks, and the blinkers and I found out my reverse lights don't work. I checked the bulbs and they were in perfect shape brand new. But I did notice that when I shift into reverse if I have the shifter in place right before it clicks in they will come on but once the shifter actually clicks into place they shut off. So I'm guessing it's some short in my shifter. Any ideas on what I could do to fix this?

Also my taillights and break lights are LED bulbs, they were already installed when I bought the car, would that trigger the warning light on my dash?

I have a 96 ES300

I have that light come on when the front right parking light was burnt out (turn signal part of the 1157 bulb still worked).

Step 1: revert to stock bulbs and check
Step 2: record Voltage output at the socket

Also verify the wiring to make sure that it was not modified to accommodate LED's. This is usually done by wiring external resistances in series with the LED's.
