I just got a 2003 Lexus ES 300 with 101000 miles and I noticed that around 25 MPH the transmission shifts in and out of gear and make the car feel like it's going back and forwarded untill ether you speed up or slow down and then it knows what gear to be in, I hate when this happens, is there any fix for this problem? Also my car in traffic is the worse when you have to slow down and pick up speed and slow down again and pick up speed to keep moving with the traffic, it jumps into and out of gears, can this be fixed?

Overheating Problem - Thermostat needed?
I am surprised that overheating was not listed as a common problem. I bought a 1992 ES300 with 173K miles, poorly maintained. Besides transmission noise & faulty shifting, dim headlights, instrument cluster lighting & valve job, overheating has been the most extreme problem. Milled heads, ground valves, new head gasket, temperature sensor, new radiator, hoses & cap. (water pumpt is fine) Finally, replaced the hydraulic fan with an electric one and got rid of the thermostat and complete engine tune up. Other conditions: driver's seat leather split, passenger side window switch replaced, antenna replaced, trunk lock cylinder replaced, repaired sun roof. Cruise control does not work and check engine light recently came on. Drives, runs, and looks great.
The owners manual says thermostat is needed to prevent overheating. Huh? I thought it was needed to reduce engine warm up time. The car is in a warm climate, do I need to install a new thermostat, or leave it out?

Why in the world would you leave out the thermostat? Get an OEM unit and be happy. Without it, the car will take longer to warm up, and a whole bunch of other things you don't want to happen.
It's there for a reason!

I've a '93 ES300 with 101K miles. Bought new, I love the car. However, I am on my third transmission, haven't had a working antenna for 50K miles and the door-mounted speaker (driver's side) was initially an intermittent problem that is no longer intermittent - it just doesn't work. The transmission issues tested my patience. The speaker/antenna issues are mostly an annoyance.

my climate control is wonky...sometimes the passenger side dual zone does not work correctly...
my CD player has never worked...not a big deal since i have ipod integration
typical of an 03 ES300 my transmission gear hunts alot around 25-40mph...not a consistant thing and not too much of an issue.
for 104,500mi not too bad. almost of the $ i have put into it is for regular maintenance (brakes, tires, oil changes, timing belt, etc).

97 Es300, A Pillar trim behind the driver door lost a tab so gets alittle open when driving above 50, drivers side door handle broke, passenger window switch a little sticky, Paint starting to go in a couple spots, 1 of the AC lights died, Head Gasket replacement =(
Other than that a great car 192k

i have a 97 es300...strut mounts are gone i get that clunky sound. so really the suspension may need an overhaul/replacement. other than that no issues. all i have done on it except for sway bar links is routine maintenance.
i will need an alignemnt/suspension check soon but it just crossed 200k km ie 124,000 miles.

'99 ES. 199K. I'm surprised that there isn't a listing for the IACV (Idle control valve) issue as I've had mine changed out three times already. Also the paint near the side mirrors on my car has completely peeled and should probably be repainted soon.
Otherwise no real problems with the car, just what I would consider regular maintenance issues with a car of such vintage.
