Wow, I don't feel left out. I went through the same thing this year. It all started in the Spring with a new radiator and the orange Dexcool upgrade, a radiator cap in the summer. After each fix it would take a month for the coolant to get low enough to cause the overflow and overheat. Then it turned into less than a day. This November, they opened up the engine. They found that the gasket had blown in cyclinder six, and was starting to do so in cylinder five. You are right about the mechanics not knowing anything. Everytime I took it in, they couldn't get it to overheat. They should have done the gasket in the Spring.
Its like I have a new car now, but the engine sounds like a truck engine during idle after the rebuild. They are blaming an idler pulley and the new belts they put in. Its still very smooth, quiet, and fast on the high revs so I am not complaining. After I recover from the gasket bill, I'd like to get the engine tuned up a little better. But I think its age. Is it worth a second look? Any input on this is appreciated. This is just my little adventure to share with you guys.

Man, I hope it's one of the front cylinders, but with my luck it'll be the back...oh well, I'd check both while I was at it anyway. Hopefully I'll start workin on it in a few days. Right now though it's still sittin in the same spot in the driveway, covered in 3 inches of snow and with a battery that's as dead as a doornail (another thing I get to fix-yay!....not)
