Default Reading text messages

With so many complaints about Lexus navigation not reading text messages, why is there no explanation? This seems to apply to iPhones, Android and Windows phones. What gives? Somebody out there must know the reason.
And why was it working and then stopped working?

Default Reading Text Message $100 reward offered

I have tried every single suggestion to get my HTC Windows 8 phone to read text messages instead of just displaying them.
The feature using the same phone worked on my 2011 Lexus ES350, my 2013 Lexus ES350 and on my present 2016 Lexus ES350 it initially did not work and then it did for for about 6 months and they it abuptly stopped last week. Do I know it CAN work!!
here has got to be an explanation.
I will send a $100 cash reward to anyone who can tell me how to make this work.
PS There was a post somewhere on the web with specific instructions from someone whose name I think was Paul.
It was a truly crazy list of things you had to do. It worked but I cannot find that message.

My Android phones have always worked fine with text messages in the car. Emails on the other hand, not so much.

Have you tried deleting the phone and adding it back in?

If you haven't already, you might check with the Tech Specialist at the dealership. Maybe he/she has come across this problem before.

My Google Android phone has worked perfectly with texts since I bought the car... I think most of the issues posted here regarding texts and emailing with smartphones is a setting within the phone. Apple and Android included. These phones become more complicated as each is released.

I have an older S4 (Android) and 2013 ES 350. It always asks and then reads the message when I indicate to do so....

The text message comes up on your NAV screen and will interrupt the music if on. The voice reads the message and the date and time appear. I have a 2013 and cannot reply by voice.
There are numerous prerecorded replies available such as "OK see you in 5 minutes" or, "I'm driving call you later". In my car there are about 15 different replies available but you have to select it and hit "reply". In the 2013 you cannot reply by voice but don't know about later MY cars.

Now I don't know if one can physically pick up their phone, use voice texting with the mike, and have it sent thru the NAV system. If so, then that way defeats the whole purpose of
"hands free" texting. I can only use the "canned" responses.

Then it could be that Hyundai - among others - has a more advanced system for back and forth texting in the car. Here we go again with Lexus being behind with the latest technology.
Maybe someone who owns a 2017 can chime in and let us know if voice texting is possible in the latest ES cars. Good luck Brent...

With the iPhone I just use Siri eyes free and it works great. The car reads me the incoming messages. I hold down the off hook button and say something like "send my wife a message". It then asks what I want to say, then sends it. There is nothing similar with Lexus for Android I'm afraid.
