Price calculation for miles on used cars
so i'm contemplating purchasing a 2014 ES300h.. seems to be about $3,000 - $5,000 difference between one ~30k miles and one ~60k miles. Does that seem right? So my question to the owners is, given that the car plans to be driven by a granny for about 6,000 miles per year, should i just go with the lower priced, higher mileage vehicle? i do feel comfort that there's warranty up to 70k miles. any thoughts? thanks much in advance

Having recently moved from a 2013 ES to a 2017 ES, I did quite a bit of research and became quite familiar with the market for the used 2013 that I was replacing. For an ES in the 2013-2014 range, I consistently found a price difference of about $1000 for for every 900 miles or so on the odometer, and, past 50,000 miles, when the bumper-to-bumper warranty ends, the difference in value for added mileage became greater.
That appears to be consistent with what you are finding. The value 60,000 mile vehicle, compared to that of the 30,000 mile vehicle, is being depreciated, not only for the extra 30,000 miles, but, also, for the fact that it is no longer under the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Surely that's a typo 900 miles and a $1000 drop in price? Must be a decimal moves somewhere in there. Pretty sure a car does not depreciate 10,000 dollars in 9000 miles.

You are absolutely correct. I meant to say that about every 9000 miles on the odometer generally means about $1000 difference in the price. Thanks for catching my careless error.
