10,000 mile service issues
Hello Lexonians,
Well, I took my 2016 ES350 in for its official 10,000 service yesterday. Of course, when I got it back everything had been reset/erased
as far as the computer and settings go. So now I have to rediscover how to reset them.
But I noticed on the invoice it says 'Replaceable element' and 'Gasket' as separate line items. I wonder if this is a normal part of an oil change? Is the 'Gasket' used to keep the oil from leaking? Just wondering if you guys had the same experience.
Also, the right mirror was totally off. When I got home I discovered it was loose. Moving it towards the car seemed to 'click' it into place, so hopefully it'll be OK. Maybe they had to fold it in or something when they did their magic w the oil change?
In the future I think I'll just take it to Jiffy Lube. I don't see why they have to reset everything in the car, and also it takes literally
2+ hours of waiting - just for an oil change.

p.s. whenever a dealer has someone 'test drive' the car (and I think they did cause it had a couple more miles on it), the dude
who does that resets everything for his own comfort. Also when they have to reset the 'oil change' warning, it seems they're always hiring new people who don't know how to do that, so the dude ends up fiddling around w the computer, resetting other things,
etc., til he finally gets the oil thingy reset. It's always a big production for them, and you can just google how to do it in 10 seconds.

Yes, the oil filter "replaceable element' and 'Gasket' are separate parts used for the oil filter change. They should also have replaced the cabin air filter element as part of the service as well as rotating the tires. I don't know why you would have had to reset "everything" unless you just mean seat and mirror settings for driving purposes and those should have returned to your preference with the memory setting. Even when my dealer replaces the battery they usually retain all other settings - radio presets etc.. Regarding the outside mirror, they may have folded it down for some reason and not quite snapped it back into place.
I would not go to Jiffy Lube.

Yes - agree with Dave Mac - please don't take your ES to Jiffy Lube - see if you can find a dependable independent shop within a reasonable distance that specializes in Japanese vehicles.

Thanks guys. I don't see any reference to an air filter or rotating tires on the invoice. So I guess they didn't do that.
There appears to be a lot of turnover nowadays at this dealer, so I suspect maybe the service dept is not quite what it used to be.
Sigh....so I may have to take it in again. I suspect it's not a good idea to go a long time w/o rotating the tires. I don't know if
the air filter needed changing or not.

The air filter is not part of the 10k service. Tire rotation is, however. The mirror probably got knocked in by the dreaded car wash.

I think 15k is filter changes. Actually, every time you bring it in for service, after the 2 free, they'll want to change your air filter. I replaced mine a few months ago and only had a little over 1k miles driven. When I had it in for service they said the filter looked dirty.

lol that's always the case - once the service visits are no longer free, they want to do a lot of stuff.
Who can blame them - they're in business to make $$$ after all !
