My '14 ES windshield recently got hit with a rock near the end of a 3k road trip. It made a quarter sized star break on the passenger side. Called a well known local glass repair guy the next day and he was able to do an excellent repair and only charged $40.

Strange all this recent windshield damage. Mine was cracked by a rock on the highway about a week ago. That 6" crack is now about 18" across the passenger side. Insurance will cover it, install is scheduled for the 14th. Pisser is I have to find the time to take it back to the tint shop for my free retint. Anyone know if the camera needs recalibrated? Glass shop told me to call the dealership to find if its required but I havent yet. Its loaded; rain sensing, adaptive cruise, collision avoidance, auto headlights ect...

FYI AAA doesn't cover windshield repair.

FYI - Florida has an interesting law - If you have comprehensive coverage, windshield replacement is the only claim for which you are not charged a deductible. Florida law requires this waiver to encourage drivers to immediately replace damaged windshields.

I had one on my 2010 ES that was small, banged on it with my fist to get it to spread so they wouldn't insist on trying a repair lol.
I have a $1,000 deductible and today I got a quote of $500 for a no-name windshield and $900 for Lexus OEM. Labor would be extra. The installer claims that they are the same product because Lexus does not produce its own windshields. Do you guys know if the Lexus branded windshields are really worth the extra $400? I am worried that more road noise may get in or the auto wipers and defrost may stop working right. Anybody have experience with the aftermarket windshields? BTW I have a 14 300h. I feel that my car will lose its virginity if I put an after market product but perhaps I am being overly emotional?

I would happily pay the extra $400.

Can you please elaborate? Why do you feel so strongly?

Ive elaborated here numerous times. I've had aftermarket windshields before and have had issues with wavy glass, tint that didn't match, inferior longevity. It's true outside manufacturers make glass for Lexus, but Lexus is very strict about what glass they accept, and where do you think the glass they reject goes? Into the glass company's aftermarket replacement line.

It might be fine, but if it's not you're going to have a huge hassle and fight on your hands I'd rather pay $400 to avoid the potential of.

Makes a lot of sense. Thank you! I am going to get a guy to try to fill the nick tomorrow and if that is not satisfactory, will go with OEM. I appreciate your advice.
