I know, I meant that if her rate stayed the same with the ticket it might be a bargain for her.

If she hasn't been to court yet, it hasn't impacted her rates because she hasn't been "convicted" yet.

Remember, she could even lose her license or go to jail...depending on the ruling of the judge.

Well I'm hoping that a judge won't throw a mother of 2 baby boys that works 50 hours a week serving under privileged children with healthcare needs in jail for a first offense. I think that's a little extreme. And I was shopping rates before I got the ticket. If I'm convicted and my rate was $127 a month I'd feel blessed.

Sorry to hear about your predicament. That is a real downer. If traffic school is an option, go for it. Hopefully it will expunge your ticket and leave your insurance rates alone, let alone the penalties of reckless driving.

Please listen to me and get an attorney. My wife has a good friend that had a very similar ticket in VA, she also was a mother of young children and even with an attorney she paid a $2000 fine and lost her license for 3 months. That's not an ordinary speeding ticket in va.

Judges don't respond if people feeling entitled to lenience.

Get. An. Attorney.

Good, get somebody who understands reckless driving defense in VA though, the ins and outs, etc.

Attorneys often think they "can practice any sort of law" but they can't. It's like a podiatrist trying to operate on your brain. He may think he can, and he's licensed to but you don't want him to.

Oh I know!!! Sister and her husband work in corporate law but have good connections. My friend handles a lot of criminal cases so I reached out to him to see if he could help me. If he can't, between 3 I'll find someone.

Thanks! My friend responded and said for me to go to driving school before court and he will go with me. Said he knows the judge very well and had no doubt he'll dismiss it. Said he's been in his court room hundreds of times over the past 15 years.

Ill let you guys know how it goes in April! In the meantime I'll be watching my speed!!

The irony is that the speed limit on most of Idaho's interstate is 80. One of the few benefits to living in a very rural state. They do slow us down in the metropolitan areas, we just don't have very many of those.

Default Dismissed!!!!

Well today was the big day. My lawyer buddy couldn't make it because he had an emergency hearing to attend so he sent me with a letter to continue it.

When it was was my turn (almost last), I walked up and handed him the letter and said I have an attorney but he can't be here. The judge starting reading what the officer had wrote.... very polite, cooperative, etc... and the officer chimned in and said that it was a new car and I was still learning it. Judge said "you're perfect"...... plus five points. If you'd like to proceed today I'll dismiss it, just go to driving school!

So i agreed!! Been very cautious ever since that day! I' feel very lucky!!
