2013 Custom Car Cover and ML Subwoofer
Didn't want to hijack Ratchey's outstanding stereo upgrade thread, though I'm following it with great interest, but it brings up my dissatisfaction with my Mark Levinson equipped 2013. I'm not a bass junkie by any stretch, and I'm not looking for competition SPLs here, but I do find the sub to be the weakest link in the whole system. Now Ive tinkered with the EQ level of the sub but it sounds really bad if you get a song with a strong bass line and the setting is anything above the middle mark (I've settled on one step below middle). Is this mediocre amplification or a poor driver? Both? What can I do, short of what Ratchey is doing, to get better bass?
Second, I have a custom cover for my Porsche Boxster and I love the fitment. Can anyone recommend a custom cover for my Lexus? Does Lexus make a decent one that isn't overpriced? Car is parked outside all the time and Im looking for something I can throw on when freezing rain and/or snow is forecast overnight.
As always thanks in advance...

You will not get the bass you are looking for from the stock amp and sub combo.
You can add an AudioControl LC2iB which allows you to add in an amp and sub or powered sub.
You can do a straight LOC but the problem you face is that the factory system will reduce the bass signal at certain levels.
Adding in an AudioControl processor (or similar) will restore the lost bass signal and allow the addition of a bass control **** so you can adjust the bass per song easily.

The biggest improvement I found with my ML was to disable the DSP surround mode. For some reason it's enabled by default. That said, I like my music to sound unmolested. I don't like exaggerated bass. The ML system was tuned for the car and, for me, leaving all settings at mid "0" produces the best sound. Just make sure surround is off and you have a good source, like a CD, 256k or greater MP3. XM music will never sound good on the ML, by design.
