Default Tin Can

Hi
Just bought 2016 Lexus ES 350 and when it rains it sounds like i'm sitting in a tin can, the roof sounds as if no insulation was added.
Does your ES have the same problem

I haven't noticed that, but then we get very little rain around here so I haven't spent much time driving in rain, and certainly no heavy rain.

Doug, thanks for your reply, I just went into the garage and tapped on the car roof , and it sounds like there is just the metal roof with no insulation underneath, going by Lexus dealership today and tap on a few ES roof tops and see if the sound the same as mine.

How heavy of a rain pour was it? Might depend on the amount of water coming out of the sky. Just had a decent rain storm on my evening commute and I didn't notice the 'tin can' sound.

Default Tin can

Rain was very light, only lasted a few minutes. Go to you car and tap on the roof with your finger and you will be able to hear the hollow sound.

Tonight as I was walking up to my door, I tapped on the roofs of several cars. An 85 MBZ 300D turbo all metal sunroof, a 00 ML320 glass sunroof, 05 mini cooper glass sunroof, and 07 Jag XK glass sunroof, all cars owned by me. The MBZ are older and they sound like solid metal. Yes, I have heard a tin can sound when it rained on those cars, but this was also during really heavy rain fall. The mini and Jag sounded a bit hollow. Haven't listened to the ping of rain on their roofs. Following this post, there was a decent moderate rainfall, I heard the rain making a 'plink' sound on the roof of the lexus, sounded a bit hollow.
