Strange Message On Dash
#16
I live in the lower FL Keys where it has never dropped below 42 degrees thus I have never seen this message. However we hope to move to NC in the future so I'm glad to have learned this information.

They don't bother putting that message on my Canadian car. I guess they figure with such cold winters there's not much pont reminding us there is "ice on the road". It's a given!

I could be mistaken, but I believe that the "ice on the road" warning only became available with the revised information display that came with the 2016 ES re-fresh. In any case, I don't recall having ever seen that warning with the 2013 ES that I recently traded in. So, if you don't have it on your 2015 ES, it might well still be on the information display with 2016 and 2017 Canadian ES vehicles.

Is there a way to turn it off?

If you go into the settings for the information display, which are accessed via the buttons on the steering wheel, you have the option of turning off the pop-up display, which includes the "ice on road" warning. It is explained starting on page 538 of the 2017 ES manual. I'm not sure what page it is on in the 2016 ES manual, but I'm guessing it is close to the same page as in the 2017 manual.
I might add that I'm not sure that there is much point in turning off the pop-up display. Items in the pop-up display disappear by themselves in just a few seconds, and, if you don't want to wait those few seconds, you only need to press the "back" button on the steering wheel, and they will disappear immediately.
