I've checked the labeling on the oil packaging, and it is clearly marked as genuine Toyota full synthetic oil.
I suspect that their marketing strategy is to do oil changes for somewhere around their cost to encourage customers to have other service and repair work done in their shop. And what they charge for other work is also quite reasonable at prices less than half of what the Lexus dealer charges. I've been having all of my work on my Lexus vehicles done there for about a dozen years, and they do now have a loyal customer.

I just recently was surprised to find that my dealer uses a bulk, no name oil.

Yes, I have. At the dealership, they have windows that allow a view of the service bays from the waiting area, and I'm particular enough about service being done on my vehicles that makes me feel a need to stand by those windows and watch everything that they are doing to my vehicles.

At my dealer theres no way to watch unfortunately.

I asked the service manager at my local Lexus dealer what oil they use. he said if you come in and buy oil they sell you the Toyota synthetic which is high quality. Oil changes there, they use oil in a drum that is synthetic but not a major brand. I had heard of it but can not remember the name. Confirmed that I will keep bringing them Mobil 1 from Walmart and the oil filter bought on line from Lexus Parts World.

Lexus has adopted a 10k mile oil change interval and specifies 0w20 full synthetic oil (there are some 0w20 synthetic blends available, but not many). Toyota Genuine Motor Oil (TGMO) is a very good oil which I have read is made by Exxon Mobil and you would think would be the ideal choice by dealers to use for their high price oil changes. But based on the info SW15LS has provided, it appears we all need to be very vigilant as to what oil is being used if we have it changed by a dealer.

this thread is quite worrisome,
many of us are paying the dealer over $100 for these service visits. If we cannot even be sure of good quality oil, that is worrisome
If I end up having to reassure myself by buying Mobil 1 syn oil at an auto parts store, then I might as well take it to a lower cost local mechanic to change the oil rather than pay the dealer over $100 to put in the oil I bought....
Local mechanic is quite capable of checking the fluid levels and rotating tires too.

Seriously? Many Lexus dealers are using some no name bulk oil instead of Toyota? All the more reason to just get a cheaper oil change at the toyota dealership, or better yet, find a nice independent mechanic shop with good reviews who works on Japanese cars.
We can all save the dealership for more involved work like transmission fluid changes that require special equipment.

Up to now, 4 years and going forward, I've changed the oil in my 2013 ES myself. Sometimes I don't feel like crawling under the car and having oil drip on my face. So, based on reading all of these posts about buying oil from Walmart and taking it to a Lexus or Toyota dealer sounded like a great idea. I first tried an Indy and he wanted $75.00 for a change including oil and cartridge. Then $35.00 if I brought the oil and filter. Not a good deal. The Toyota dealer gave a flat NO, we don't do that. I haven't asked the Lexus dealer but suspect they will also say NO. I recently joined AAA and they want $75.00 for the oil and cartridge which I think is exhorbitant.

I used to take my previous old lexus to a honest Lexus indie mechanic who uses bottled oil. I'll do my two freebie services visits at lexus, but after reading these posts, might go back to my Indy guy after that!
I have a top notch espresso machine at home, so I dont need the dealership's nice espressos particularly....
