Default Sirius XM Prices

Hi Everyone,

I got a letter in the mail about renewing the Sirius XM radio. One is for $30 for 6 months and the other is $89 for 12 months. Are these the best offers that you can get?

Thank you

I've gotten a number of similar offers, including the 6 months for $30, 6 months for $25, and 5 months for $20. At one point, I also got an offer for a free 2 month subscription. These offers are always available, even if the money and months vary slightly from one time to the next.

Know, though, that, if you sign up for one of these, it will auto renew at the regular price when the term of the special offer expires. If, however, you call to cancel when the special pricing ends, you will be offered some variation of the special pricing again.

I have been using Sirius for over 5 years and always able to negotiate a 6 month for $25 deal with them, which ends up being $30+ with taxes and fees. As lesz says, be sure to call to cancel right before the subscription runs out or they will automatically renew at a very high rate.

You can avoid the automatic renewal if you have them invoice you instead of charging your credit card. There is a $2 extra charge but to me its worth it.

If you read the fine print on the Sirius invoice it says they will automatically renew (regardless of payment method) unless you call to cancel. Even if you pay by check, they will invoice you for the next period at the higher rate. Some people are able to re-negotiate after the renewal to the lower rate, but its a hassle.
FWIW, I have never used a credit card for Sirius.

This is good information. Sirius does everything they can to charge you full price. You must call before your current term expires to renegotiate the lower price. I found this out on this forum and saved about 2/3rds. of the price by spending about 45 minutes on the phone.

That is true. You do have to be aware of the date of cancellation and notify them ahead of time. However at times when I forget to do so and get an invoice I have always been able to negotiate a lower rate through their CSR department. Just tell them you want to cancel the service.

I'm not sure if Sirius/XM still offers lifetime subscription plans or not, but if they do they are a bargain. I purchased such a plan about six years ago for about $500 and it was paid off in less than 36 months (based on a monthly fee of $13) and I have not paid a single dime to them since (with the exception of a total of $150 to transfer the plan to new cars twice). That is one hell of a deal in my opinion.

How did you get around their policy of only transferring to a car once?

Mike, back when I purchased my lifetime subscription the rules allowed for up to three transfers between cars provided I pay a $75 transfer fee each time...I now have one remaining transfer under my plan.

Didn't ever really look into SiriusXM enough to know there was a lifetime option. Thanks for the info.

I find it VERY convenient for listening to out of market live sports. We have the all access pkg for around 10 bucks a month and feel it's worth using it in multiple cars and at home via the Internet.

Not worth the hassle of always calling to get another deal.. if they wanted folks to keep it.. they would offer the 'for life" plan...or make it one price and leave it alone. Even the All access according to their siget is $20.00 a month then said it will renew at the current rate....
