Default MSRP Discounts....am I crazy?

Either I am not pushing hard enough or the market conditions are different other places than me. I see these 10K or 17-20% off deals (including $3500 rebates I think) and really am questioning myself. Are there deals like that in places other than CA and TX? I am in a city (Pittsburgh) that has 2 Lexus dealers that have the same owner and are both Lexus Plus dealers. They are both giving me about $1500-$1700 off MSRP + the $3500. Of course they are selling me on the benefits of life time oil changes, loaner vehicles etc. Bull Crap. So I was checking out of town (I don't mind driving a few hours to save some bucks.....and apparently a few saved bucks can be had) and have a dealer willing to sell me an MSRP car of $46,100 (Lux package with Lexus Safety system, and all the other goodies but heated steering wheel......not ML or Ultra stuff of course) for 43,000 plus the $3500 plus about $300 in Doc fees, title/registration, etc. That gets me to $6600 off or 14%.

Another dealer about 5-6 hours away will sell me a $45,939 car (basically the same) for $42420 -$3500 plus about $250 in fees for $7015 off or 16.5%

Would love to hear from people in Pittsburgh, OH, WV or even MD.

What am I missing?

Discounts off of MSRP have varied widely from one region to another. And, yes, traditionally, some of the highest discounts, by far, have been in the Southern California and Texas areas. The highest prices have generally been in the middle of the country from about the Great Plains to Ohio and, possibly, western Pennsylvania.

I had hoped, with the ES 350 now being made in Kentucky, pricing for the ES might improve for the middle of the country since transportation costs from a port of entry into the country are no longer a factor, but that doesn't seem to have happened.

The way to get a better idea of what should be possible in your region would be to price out the car with the Edmunds, TruCar, and KBB sites. What you get from those sites should be in the ballpark for what is happening in your area, but you should probably be able to do a little better than what those sites show.

Also, note that, for many of the people who seem to be getting the "best deals", there could be less obvious parts of their deals that have allowed the dealer to make profits, including undervaluing trade-ins, lease or finance terms that are favorable to the dealer, selling the customer ridiculously high dealer add-ons, such as extended warranties, appearance protection plans, etc. Just looking at the selling price of the vehicle itself relative to MSRP is quite meaningless.

So basically $39,950 +TTL. I assume that includes the $3500 rebate? So that's $7350 off......I probably still have some room and sounds like you do too. Would you mind sharing which dealer? MD isn't that far depending where.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Shopping for a '16 with premium package and safety features. Basically all options except NAV, and the UL stuff. Live in SW FL, got my first quote today from a dealer close to Miami.

MSRP-$43,108
$38,516 including current golden opportunity incentive

OTD-$40,284 including TTL

no trade ins

seems decent but, I know I can do better. Shopping deal around to about 5 other dealers. Luckily, there's about 7 dealers in a 200 mile radius in south Florida.

BTW, anyone else nervous about waiting to pull the trigger until after the golden opportunity incentive expertise on 9/5? Would think the deals will only get better as '17's hit the lots.

$42,479 MSRP

$37090.13 before incentive ($5388.87 off)
- $3,5000 incentive
+ $245.41 sales tax (after trade)
+ $649.00 fees (includes title and registration fee)

$34484.54 out the door (financed at 5 years 1.9%)

Refinanced a few weeks later with Western Federal Credit Unit (now Unify Federal Credit Union) for three years at 0.74% (after automatic payment 0.25% discount).

Ukee,
that's an awesome deal. I am definitely not in a hurry, but glad to know that you negotiated msrp and then take the incentive off. Great advice.

My other car is a '15 accord coupe v6 and I took 3 months and shopped 6 different dealers and got that for $29,500 OTD which was the best I could get by far on the accord forums.

First time shopping for a luxury brand so, not sure if there is more wiggle room or not. Thanks so much for the feedback.

@Woofysmack, recently, there have been some that have received $10k off (including incentives) on slightly higher priced cars (around $45,000+ range). Good luck and YMMV.

Note: I did take a bath on the trade though but felt like I had no choice as I was so desperate to get out of previous car (which is rare as I still drive my 2003 Intrepid which I bought new over 13 years ago).

Spoke to another dealer today. So far, this is the best offer I have received in South Florida. Still on the hunt though. Getting closer but, I think I can do better.

1. ES350 With Nav MSRP $45,704.00
Sale Price $41,704.00
Rebate $3,500.00
Sales Tax $2,546.85
Tag Fee's $231.50
Dealer Processing Fee $689.00
Total Bottom Line $41,761.35
Also If You Finance Thru Lexus You Qualify for Additional $1000 Rebate!!

2. ES350 Without Nav MSRP $42,709.00
Sale Price $38,709.00
Rebate $3,500.00
sales Tax $2,376.15
Tag Fee's $231.50

I noticed that they gave you the same dollar discount ($4,000) for the $45,704 car as they did the $42,709 car. I would push for more discount on the $45,704 car if that's what you want (I would point out that the options are more and there should be more of a discount). Also, are you sure you can get the $1,000 rebate on top of the $3,500 rebate? Just making sure.

What rate do you get if you finance through Lexus financial with the $1,000 extra rebate?

Ditto on the above. I am pretty active right now also and $4K off seems to be a pretty common offer. Thinking I can do better also.

Thanks so much for the quick replies.

Yes, spoke to him on the phone and confirmed additional $1000 off if financed through Lexus.
.9% for 60 OR 1.9% for 72

I agree completely about a deeper discount off the nav version but, leaning very hard towards the NON nav after reading lukewarm reviews on here.

i'm patient and more than happy to 'walk' if I don't get the right deal. Getting closer but, I think I still have at least a couple grand to go. As it gets closer to the end of the month I think they should be more willing to deal.

Thanks for all the feedback. The negotiations continue. I'll post updates as they come.

I think he's wrong about stacking discounts. I've not seen anything that states that you can get the 0.9% PLUS the $3,500. There might be a 0.9% + $1,000 off OR $3,500 but I can't imagine both. I would definitely double check that one with someone else.

From Edmunds:
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Customer $ Offer Requirements and Restrictions:
  • Performance Customer Cash is available towards retail purchases. May not be combined with special APR or leases financed through Lexus Financial Services.

Customer $ Offer/Start/End $3,500 08/02/2016 09/06/2016

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

On a side note, Edmunds states that the finance bonus cash is $1,500, not $1,000.Lender $ Offer Requirements and Restrictions:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
  • Bonus Cash is available towards retail purchases. Must finance through Lexus Financial Services using special rates.

Bonus $ OfferType/Start/End $1,500 Lender 08/02/2016 09/06/2016

(Note that to get the $1,500, you must finance through Lexus Financial using the Special Rates which invalidates the $3,500 cash offer.

yes .you're correct. It's Silver Spring Lexus. If you like to come down, I will give you manager contact so you can talk to her directly. If you like we can buy the same time maybe they give us more discount. . I didn't pull trigger because they don't have color i wanted.

Assuming they made an error on the stacking of offers with the incentive and the finance, if they decide to honor it, is it a no brainier to pull the trigger?
