I installed LED turn signals over 3 years ago without any resistors. No modification to the car necessary. Search for a thread "hyperflashing turn signals. There are photos on there...

The dealer offers it for free at your first free service (5k miles). That's when I had it done.

Yup, we agree that more settings should be changeable through the interface of the car itself... but they're not. Given that fact, we've created an easy and quick alternative to going to the dealer for this. Even if the dealer does it for free (which they usually don't after the initial 5k-mile service), some people find it worthwhile to pay $9.99 to be able to change their settings as they please for a week (or $39.99 for a year).

Got it, thanks! I can confirm that on the GS, the number of flashes is not adjustable electronically. Only the click volume is.

However, it seems like you can adjust it yourself with a sequence of button/stalk presses:
