Default Front License plate relocation on 2016 Es 350

Hey all, yesterday I got the idea to move the plate bracket on the front all the way down so it gives it a much cleaner look and doesn't obstruct the grille. To do so test mount the bracket on the lowest position, then have someone hold it. Then you take a 1/8 drill bit and make the two new wholes then put everything back together. Here are some before and after pics

I relocated mine to the trunk on my 2013. I think I would be ok putting it on a '16, since it's not being screwed into anything painted. I don't think it makes much difference, in appearance, being in the center, vs the lower grill. I would just be concerned with possible air blockage.

In terms of looks it definitely makes a huge difference makes the grill pop way more.

For the 2016 ES, what is the license plate frame actually screwed into (in its designed location).

Not that it matters much, but I prefer the designed location for the license plate over the spot to which the OP moved it. To me, it looks like it is in the right place in the designed location with both left to right and up and down symmetry in the middle of the lower portion of the spindle grille. Also, something strikes me as being "off" with the license plate covering up a portion of the chrome trim at the bottom of the grille.

To me, moving it is a solution in search of a problem.

That said, it's not my car, and I accept the fact that my opinion doesn't mean much.

I think its a shame that the state even requires that a tag be on the front of the car. It really does ruin the look no matter where its relocated. I agree with Les that the symmetry is off.

Well of course symmetry will be a little off now that it is moved all the way down and not centered. All opinions are welcome though I don't mind it a bit. And yea I agree I wish they never required the tag in the first place.

Ohio is one of the states that requires a front license plate. However, a lot of people, including me, refuse to put the front license plate on. In most jurisdictions in Ohio the Police will not cite you unless they pull you over for another traffic violation. Currently there is a bill in the Ohio House that will make it a secondary offense which means the Police cannot stop and cite you for that reason alone. I am hoping it passes.

Too bad there's no space for an offset mounting to the left or right, like on the Alfa 159 or some Audis.

You can get a tow hook license plate mount if you like the offset look.

Default Front Bracket

I’m trying to attach my front bracket. Did you just drill right into the plastic behind the grill?

I'm thinking about taking mine off my '15 and plugging up the holes. I too am in Middlesex county NJ and I see alot of luxury vehicles with no front plates. I mean if they're going to pull me over itll be for my tints.

Just run it hidden. If you get pulled over, pop it out before the cop gets to your window. "What're you talking about? It's there..."

I've had one on my MR2 for probably 10 years now. It could be better-designed, but it works. I'd rather it be enclosed and weather-sealed, but as long as you grease it once a year or so it's fine.

The only big change I'd make is a 2-way remote so that you could see the position of the plate from inside the car. As it is, you just have to hope you hold the extend button long enough to pop it all the way out.
