Default Trunk Arm Cover - both sides??

Hey folks,

So I bought my ES350 UL (2013) CPO. A while back, prior to my first service, I noticed there was only a cover on the passenger side trunk hinge. The driver side trunk hinge has no cover.

When I took it in for the first service, one of the things I asked them to check was whether there is supposed to be a cover on both trunk hinges. They said no.

Today, out of curiosity, I tried looking up the part online, and I believe there IS supposed to be a cover on both trunk hinges. The driver side one is part 64572-33030.

Can anyone confirm if there is supposed to be a cover on both trunk hinges, and if so, has anyone ever removed/replaced one? I would assume that task is about as easy as it gets...I hope.

I doubt the dealer will give me one free of charge this far after the sale, but I may give it a shot.

Thanks!

I have a plastic cover on each of the two hinges on my 2013 ES. The two hinges/covers look like mirror images of each other.

Never heard of just one cover - I think they owe you. And further, this would make me wonder what happened to the cover- I would be looking closely for a repair.

Just wanted to chime in and say that my 2013 (UL 300h) only has one plastic trunk arm cover on the passenger side since I got it new.

I don't understand why some cars have one and some on both sides. I have a 2013 350 and the hinges are covered right and left...

I don't know if it is meaningful, but, of the people who have posted, those with an ES300h have said that they only have one cover, and those who have an ES350, except for the OP, say that they have the cover on both hinges. That makes me wonder if there might be some clearance issue with the ES300h batteries that doesn't allow enough room for the cover on the driver's side and if, perhaps, the OP should have covers on both hinges of his/her ES350.

actually, both my hinges do have a plastic cover(I have a 350), but i'm wondering if what the OP is referring to is what is pictured below, which is only on the passenger side? I think its the cover for the self- opening trunk lid motor.

Oops - I should have probably included photos to begin with, my terminology may be off. Photos attached here.

I just feel it is odd that the drivers side has cables/sharp edges exposed, and the passenger side with the motor is fully covered.

I'm thinking, after seeing your post, that we aren't all talking about the same "cover", and I'm also thinking that you have solved the mystery.

I'll bet that those who have the self-opening trunk option, have the extra cover on the passenger side to cover the motor. Those of us, on the other hand, who don't have the self-opening trunk option do not have that cover (or motor), and, thus, both sides look the same with a plastic cover over only the hinge arms.

For those of us who do not have the self-opening trunk option, the hinges on both sides look just like the picture of your driver's side hinge. As I said in the post above, I'm confident that the "extra cover" you have on the passenger side is covering up the motor for the self-opening trunk option.

I'd have to agree with you. I still don't like it, but that's just me!

Thanks for all of the responses.

The reason I'd like to have a cover on the left arm as well is because it is easy to overfill that side of the trunk, which can result in the hinge arm running into the trunk contents and stopping the motor's operation. With the motor cover on the right hand side, I know what the clearances are.

I have a 2013 and both sides have the covers, but the right side is slightly skinnier.

I have a 2013 ES/UL with the power trunk. I have the cover on the motor side and no cover on the other side. As far as I know, that is normal.
