Good morning everybody. I have a new 2015 ES350 with about 500 miles on the odometer. I live on a cul-de-sac. When exiting my driveway I back out of the drive and turn the steering wheel about half way to the left to proceed around the "bowl" of the cul-de-sac and after shifting the car from reverse into drive and just barely getting rolling I hear a faint "pop" sound from the front end. This only happens once on each drive and never again until the next time I repeat this maneuver after the car sits all night in the garage. I've tried to turn the car in the opposite direction (right rather than left) and the same thing happens. Again, this ONLY happens once each time I exit the drive. I am wondering if anybody else has experienced this and if you all feel it is "normal" or if I should be concerned. Thanks in advance.

there has been some chatter on this subject, and I believe I've heard it on mine a few times. I think it's some suspension component, but it seems minor and it doesn't appear to affect the safety/drivability of the vehicle.

I also notice what you are describing. However, it usually occurs when pulling out of parking spots at work. I may just not notice it when coming out of the driveway.

I turn the wheel sharply to get out of a parking space. Then I put the car into D, and while slowly accelerating, while turning the wheel back straight, I hear some "pop" or an almost "clunk" like sound. The first time it happened, I thought I ran over something, and another time I thought something had definitely broken.

I haven't asked the dealer about this though, and I already have 34k miles on my 2013 ES350.

I've noticed the "pop" as well and struck it up as normal since it doesn't affect drivability, etc.

I hear a clunk from my left front suspension, my guess is the spring movement noise.

Another thing that popped up in my mind as I was leaving work. I heard a "clunk" as I drove off AFTER reversing from my spot. This time, it sounded more like a "mechanical" sound. My old 2001 Acura CL-S did the same thing when it tested it's ABS braking system motor. Maybe we are dealing with some sort of "system test."

It might be the ABS self check.

Just rode in my friend's 2013 Lexus ES350 this morning. Noticed that after he reversed out of his driveway, his car made the same "clunk" or a slight metallic "pop" sound as well. It did the same thing as we were pulling out of the Costco parking spot (yup, that's where we went!). So more proof that this is some sort of self-check test like the ABS motor.

So common consensus (among all the owners on this forum) is this front suspension pop or clunk or metal on metal noise is normal?

Has anyone ever asked the dealer to investigate it?

Popping/clunking/metal to metal noise classified as "normal" on a brand new Lexus? YEAAAA, I don't mind one bit! lmao

The noise you are hearing are the brake caliper pins sliding. The noise goes away when they are greased. My 2000 RX did the same thing until I did a brake job myself.

I have never heard any pop or clunk or metal on metal noise from either of the ES I own or on any loaner I have ever had.

One dealer said it's a brake pad shifting more noticeable when temperature gets cold and is normal for these type of floating calipers and left it as that. Another said they could apply a grease on the pads? but heard that only last 6-12 months...has anyone had the dealer try this?not sure if that's worth doing if it's temporary...others mentioned ABS, can't believe the different answers across the board.
