Buying lexus for the first time
Current TL owner. Thinking of buying 2013 ES 350, around 25-27k with miles around 25k. How does this sound to you guys?
Anything I should be extra cautious about checking?
Our TLs had tranny issues, do we have anything like that for ES350? Though I have heard lexus wins reliability awards often and is rated high on that.
I am not fully sold on it yet, any other cars i should check while I am at it?

Factory warranty is 48 months from first in service date. As far as chronic issues with the redesigned Lexus, I've heard of none and none have been reported on this forum to my knowledge. Lexus has been consistently at the top of the list for reliability and customer satisfaction.

More detail on the Lexus factory warranty: 48 months or 50k miles bumper to bumper and 72 months or 70k miles on power train.
Why do you wish it higher miles or are you talking about gas mileage which is really pretty good for its size at 31 hwy/21 city? Especially since the Lexus runs on 87 octane while your TL probably uses premium.

I have owned Acura's for over 25 years and 7 models including 3 TL's and my last two which were RL's. I bought a 2013 ES300H six months ago. I loved my RL and thought I might miss it but wanted something different with better gas mileage. You are right about the reliability. J D Power has Lexus #1 in dependabilty for four years in a row. Consumer Reports has them #1 for two years in a row. The maintenance is much less expensive. Transmission fluid never has to be changed. Every 10,000 miles change the oil. Every 30,000 miles change the brake fluid. These can be done at a Toyota dealer for much less than a Lexus dealer. At 100,000 is when your first major service is done. The ES drives so much smoother and quieter than my old RL. I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I have. I am the car guy among my family and friends. I tell them all their is only two manufacturers that I would own those being Acura and Lexus.

I have owned 4 TL's since 2000 and while I was happy with each of them I was unable to deal with Acura reasonably on a new TLX so I jumped to Lexus. I am very glad I did. While the ES is not as sporty as the TLX it is a much better car in regards to comfort and reliability. I do not regret my switch and neither will you.
I was just at the dealer yesterday for 10k oil change and browsed through the lot while waiting. He had 13 ES's very similarly priced to the quote you received. I would say find the car you want and the deal you like and go for it!

I used to own a 1994 Acura Legend Sedan back in the day. A roomy, Japanese luxo cruiser at the time.
Then I got a 2015 ES 350 loaner recently when my GS was being serviced over the weekend. By comparison, the rear legroom in the ES is better, the acceleration is quicker. Take note that the chassis and interior space is almost identical from the 2013s to 2015s.
Being a Lexus, your issues should be nada unless you take the thing offroad or mod the hell out of it.

Even though I didn't ask the question, this is good information for me, being a Honda owner for many years. Thanks for posting it.
The thing about the '13 ES that gave me pause was the subpar crash test scores, whereas something like the new Accord has the TSP+ rating from the IIHS. Being the old man that I am, safety is my main concern now. I know the '16 ES is TSP+ too, but I don't think the '13 fared as well.

I just purchased a 15' ES350 with only 12k L/Certified in MINT condition for $32k, it has 3 years or 100k mile warranty, plus includes all required maintenance for 36 months as well. I know it is $7k more, but getting newer and a lot more. Just for comparison.

These cars are probably one of the most reliable cars on the road and pretty easy to maintain, my LS460 is pretty reliable too, but with the amount I drive, it's starting to get a little impractical. I'll give you some examples...the car eats tires, if you can get 30k miles out of a set you're doing something really really right. The car eats batteries...I've put my second one in over the last two years. And lastly I have to put super in it - I drive 600 miles a week, so just by going to the ES350 I'll save around $30-$40 bucks a month.

I'm in the same boat right now - I'm thinking of selling my LS460 and buying a 2013 ES350. Both those you listed seem like good deals to me. As far as the warranty is concerned...just based off what I've read and what I think I know about the drive trane of the car...I wouldn't be too concerned about warranties.
