Default Problem with lock acuator on 2013 es350

I have a ES350 with 56k miles. Key fob opens and locks all doors except the driver door. I called the Lexus dealer in town and they said its probably the door lock acuator that needs to be replaced. It's out of warranty since it's over 50k miles. They said it would cost 4 to $500 to replace. Does anyone know if it is possible to replace this yourself or is there some kind of recall for this. The car is only two years old and it seems ridiculous that something like this would already go out on a Lexus. Thanks for any input...

Can you lock/unlock the driver door with the buttons inside the door? Can you lock/unlock the driver door by touching the detent on the outside handle? You can also go into your vehicle settings menu and set the entire car to lock or unlock by touching any of the door handles. If any of these methods will lock your driver door then you don't have to use the fob. Let us know how you make out and Good Luck!

Just FYI - the door lock actuator part # is 690400C050 and it retails for $270 online. So $400 total fix cost is reasonable. Lexuses break too, 50k is not exactly a new car.

Since you are out of warranty with Lexus, you can take it to a Toyota dealer or even a decent independent shop and get the work done for less.
I expect you can do it yourself if you have some mechanical skills. Check Youtube for related videos.

Its the lock actuator, its a common issue with these cars, even as young as yours. I'd find an independent mechanic...

My 2013 ES300h had ALL 4 actuators replaced within 2 years. It started with the driver door, then the front passenger, then the rear doors. Lucky for me, car is still under warranty.

Well that's scary. I checked youtube for videos of replacement procedure. Not an easy DIY.

Yeah that seems like pretty shabby quality. I had to do both front ones on my 97 LS, but that was after 15 years.

My lock settings are the following:
  • All four doors unlock upon touching any door handle (my setting of choice as I have kids)
  • All doors lock upon reaching a particular speed (~12mph)
  • All doors unlock when gear is placed in Park
  • Lock all doors again

Kind of silly, but would you think that the actuators are being "overworked" with these settings...?

I googled about the actuator's on Lexus's ESs, and I found this old thread, but, just recently, 2 months ago my wife's front driver door actuator lock went out on her 2013 ES350, about 3 weeks later the passenger front went out as well. We're closer to a Toyota dealership so they replaced both, thankfully I had purchased the extended warranty because I believe both cost close to $1k. Seems to be an almost common issue.

My wifes ES350 -- 2014 with 31,000 miles. Warranty is out like TWO MONTHS. Front driver one went out a month ago. Front passenger this week. Tonight.... the rear passenger. This seems almost "lemon like" to me. My son has a 1996 4-runner with 4 ORIGINAL door lock actuators. Thats 22 years old. This is my first Lexus. I thought they built an amazingly reliable car. All mechanics tell me these actuators are absolute garbage. I didnt expect this from Lexus. Will Lexus every live up to this and do the right thing? Recall is the answer if they care about there customers. IT IS a safety issue on many different fronts. Security being the most crucial.

Lock actuators are a common complaint. I've had a lock actuator go in just about every Lexus I've ever owned...

A recall? No. Warranty has to end sometime, its just luck of the draw. Its not a huge or hugely expensive job for an independent mechanic.

$500 to $700 per door. I have two out and the back ones are acting up too. The independent mechanic I spoke with said he does these "all the time". Just bad luck? seems like bad product to me.

I think you should find a new independent mechanic, $500-$700 is a dealer price.

The door actuators are crappy. The entire product is not crappy though, its one of the most reliable cars you can buy. Go over to the Mercedes forum and look at what they're dealing with lol

but yes, it is bad luck. Most people never have an issue, some have one, its really unusual to have a bunch. Bear in mind, your Lexus is a Toyota. That 4Runner? Same door lock actuators.
