2014 ES300h or new Acura ILX 2016?
can't decide - about same price
low mileage on the ES (12K)
better gas milage on the ES (I drive 300 - 400 miles/week)
thoughts?
thanks for info --
forgot...my main negative about the ES was the bigger size
(I am currently driving an Acura TSX - previously an ES330- love the size of TSX -- but miss the luxury cocoon feeling of the Lexus -- )

I have owned 9 Acura's over 30 years. I bought my first Lexus an ES300h three months ago coming from an RL. I never thought that I would have not have missed my RL but the ES300h is tremendous. Averaging 38 mpg's since I bought it. The maintenance is a lot less than the Acura's. Every 10,000 miles change the oil, every 30,000 the brake fluid and that is it until 100,000. Something has happened to Acura's reliability and initial quality. J D Power has Lexus always ranked #1 and Acura continues to slip and is now #12. IMO buy the much better car the Lexus.

I would definitely go with the ES. It's just a lot more car than the ILX, which I am not a fan of. The TLX vs ES would be a tougher decision, in my opinion.

Depends what you're looking for in your car, but I'd say go for the Lexus ES300h. It's much bigger and refined than the ILX, which is basically a dressed up Civic. The interior is cheap and looks straight from Honda, especially the infotainment system. Yes the Acura can be optioned with more advanced safety tech, but the package that it's wrapped in just isn't luxurious. Both cars aren't performance cars, but at least you'll get excellent mpg in the ES300h. Not to mention improved reliability and the excellent service at dealership. Acura also doesn't really compete in the luxury class...it seems to compete more with sub-luxury like Volvo and Buick.

Hey i can understand fully where your coming from. My family bought a 2013 acura tsx brand new and a 2015 Acura ilx brand new. I must say they both are extremely small and very slow compared to my 2014 Lexus ES300h which im leasing, i bought fully loaded. Its way bigger than both cars. In either the ilx or tsx i cant fit anyone above 6 ft in the back but in the es i can fit a 7 ft person in the back with out issues.
Im paying 345 a month with 0 down from lexus of mt kisco

We put the ES350 up against the Acura TLX. The ES350 won for a few reasons, one of the bigger ones was the rear seat leg room (we have kids and car seats)
The TLX is bigger than the ILX, and even the TLX was cramped with the kids in it. I could only imagine the rear leg room in the ILX, presumably its even smaller.
I feel like there is literally no comparison between the ILX and the ES350....they are 2 very different cars.
In fact after driving and borrowing an ES, my wife and I felt it was closer to the RLX than anything else in Acura's lineup.

ES is a nice car but personally I don't care for 2013-2015 models because of the interior short comings (most of which was addressed on the 2016 refresh). Still hard to go wrong with a soft 40mpg cocoon.
ILX, same thing, don't care for any model before 2016. That said the 2.4/8DCT combination is an absolute dream
Test drive both and you'll figure out which one suits you better.

Just to chime in, when I bought my 2013 ES300h, I was also considering an ILX Hybrid. Since the mileage is roughly the same, and the prices were relatively similar (older ES vs newer ILX), I test drove both and found the ILX to be much much noisier on the highway. This was a big issue for me as I drive 600 miles per week and need a quiet car to maintain my sanity.
I don't regret my decision one bit. I actually like that the ES is so much bigger while getting the same mileage. If I'm trying to drive efficiently, I can easily do 40+mpg commutes, although I tend to drive a bit faster and get about 38-39mpg. All while driving a big, beautiful car!
