Default Windshield Wipers are not stopping at the edge.

Hi,

The windshield wipers on my 2013 es350 are not stopping on the edge. When I checked on a 2015 es300h, the wipers go all the way to the edge. Is this normal for the es350? Thanks.

Wiper stops here.

That doesn't seem normal. Mine doesn't go all the way to the edge though. It stops at about 3 inches from the end of the window (driver's side).

Yeah thats what the other es300h does not all the way to the edge but way closer than the es350. I guess i'll take it to the dealer. Thanks.

have you had any windshield work done? Mine stopped going all the way to the edge after the dealer replaced my windshield.

Not necessarily on the windshield. Their was some bumper work done, but i'm not sure if that would require removing the wipers. What did the dealer end up doing to fix your wipers?

I haven't dealt with it yet. I am just going to have them adjust them at my next service, which is due in less than 1000 miles.. It hasn't been raining here at all, so it hasn't been too much of a bother.

Do the wipers stop in the correct position when at rest? i.e. at the base of the windscreen?

Perhaps the wiper motor was stopped in the "winter" position, when the arms were installed or adjusted to the "summer" position. The difference is about the same. (In my owners manual, there is a page titled "Shifting the windshield wiper position", Section 4-6, page # 333.)

If I recall correctly, the wiper motor shaft has splines. Removing the arm from the shaft, and reinstalling it one spline-tooth over, would just about make that difference....

Under warranty, the dealer should do this. If I had to pay for it, I would take a close look and maybe get a tool out of the box.

I am assuming the wipers are in winter mode as compared to the es300h they are higher. I am not sure if the rest position is correct. I attached a picture of when they are at rest position.

.

Wipers at winter mode.

Yeah i am definitely taking it to the dealer, but want to be educated about it so i can understand why it happened. I do agree that its most likely one spline off, because i am unable to lift the wipers up off the windshield like the manual states. (wipers are in winter mode). It is touching the hood and looks to be out of alignment. Also when putting the wipers in summer mode the wipers go on top of the cowl which when compared to an es300h does not look normal. I have attached a picture of the wipers in summer position resting on the cowl. Thanks.

Yep, that definitely looks misaligned.Summer mode/winter mode shouldn't affect the position that wiper stops at. And it should definitely not touch the base of windshield regardless of which mode it is on. I guess its time for a trip to the dealer.

I bought a 2013 used that's out of warranty and noticed this issue. At first I thought it might be normal (and weird), but then I saw this thread.

To fix, I used a 14mm socket to remove the wiper arm nut. Press down a bit on the wiper arm joint to release the arm and it pops off automatically (it doesn't move if you don't do this). I then eyeballed where I thought the arm should be in it's resting position and tightened it down with the nut which locks the arm into the new position. Arm now moves with it's new position.

There aren't specific guidelines to position the arm (like spline 1 or spline 2), but the tiny grooves will lock itself to the new position you select.
