I have a great deal on a 2015 ES300H in Florida. I really like the new 2016 model but am not sure when it will be available for sale. I am wondering if I should take the deal I currently have because I am sure they are trying to clear the lot for the 2016s which is why the price is so good. The price I have for the new 2015 is about 9000 under MSRP.

Get the one that you really want. Even with a 9K discount you don't want to find yourself saying I coulda, woulda, shoulda later on in a car that was not your first choice.

I agree get the one you want - you can get some kind of a deal even on a 2016 and it will always be worth $3K or more than a 2015. Personally, my lease runs out in December and at this point I dislike the new grill so much I am thinking of getting at 2015 but know better and will hopefully stay rational.

I'm not sure that there is any "right" answer to the question of whether buying a 2015 ES or a 2016 ES is a better choice because which is the better choice is largely dependent on your own priorities.

If money is the top priority, the 2015 might be a good choice because I'm sure that you are right about the dealers wanting to rid themselves of their inventories of the 2015 ES, and I also suspect that, for a while, discounting on the 2016 ES will be at a much lower level.

On the other hand, if you buy a 2015 ES, it will immediately be worth $4000-5000 less than a 2016 ES just because it is a year older. And there will be a bigger difference in re-sale value between a 2015 ES and a 2016 ES than there would be between, say, a 2014 and a 2015 ES just because there are only minor differences between a 2013, a 2014, and a 2015 ES, but there are more significant differences between the 2015 ES and a 2016 ES. However, the differences in re-sale or trade-in value between a 2015 ES and a 2016 ES will get smaller and smaller the longer you keep the vehicle. So, while there might be a financial advantage with regard to re-sale value to buying a 2016 ES if you are only planning on keeping it for a couple of years, if you are planning on keeping the vehicle for 5 or 6 years or longer, the differences in re-sale or trade-in value would become much smaller.

If it were my choice, I would probably go for the 2016 ES because I think that some of the changes and improvements in the 2016 are very nice, and, in spite of what I think is the hideous grille on the 2016, I think that overall, the refresh was very nicely done. On the other hand, the 2015 (and 2014 or 2013) is still a very nice vehicle, and, as the owner of a 2013 ES, I wouldn't even consider trading it off for a 2016.

The 2016 has a much nicer dash, steering wheel and center console and it's supposed to come with more sound deadening for a quieter ride. There's also that gigantic love-it-or-hate-it Predator grille.

On the other hand, if you don't mind giving up cosmetic upgrades for a huge discount, then yeah - the 2015 cars are a great deal. I would go for the 2015 and enjoy the saved cash, my 2014 ES300h is an awesome car as it is and I wouldn't trade it for the refresh model. Maybe I'll swap the lights and front bumper a few years down the line...

$9k UNDER MSRP???? DAMN....makes me want to make a ridiculous low-ball offer on a brand new fully loaded Ultra Luxury package-optioned Es300H at Lexus of Las Vegas they have on their website....hmm....

Not fully loaded, no Dynamic Cruise Control and what ever else comes with that option. If that is important to you, wait for the 2016 as the option will be much cheaper.

Ill be very interested to see how many vehicles come into dealer inventory with the safety package.

I know the package is cheap now, so hopefully there will be more. When I was looking for our 2015, getting an Ultra Lux with LK and PCS was tough. Lots of ULs out there, but very few of them with all of the safety features.

It looks like it may be the case that the early batches of the 2016 ES that will be coming to the dealers won't have the safety package. On the Lexus website, currently, you can not configure a 2016 ES with the Luxury package or Ultra Luxury package and the safety package (at least, not for my zip code), and which combinations of packages and options can be configured and which cannot be configured is usually an indication as to which combinations are currently being built. Also, it is not unusual for the first vehicles that are built with a model redesign or refresh to be less than fully loaded.

Did you get the deal you mentioned at $9,000 under MSRP? Which dealer did you buy from?

Assuming that you are paying retail for the 2016 and $9000 less for a 2015, I'd get the 2015. The grille is not so pleasing in the 2016 and the $9000 difference will always be $9000 difference when you sell the car years later (if you sell). Also if you hold onto the car for many years, I doubt the difference between a 2016 and 2015 will be anything near $3000 quoted earlier....

If you assume you will pay full price for the 2016 the difference would be 9+ (10, 11?)
A lot of money for the new perks. (In essence what you would be buying is this "delta".
So, I also would buy the 2015.
BTW: 9K is a HUGE discount. (again, assuming no MF/APR tricks present)

I'd go with the $9k discount if I had the option. Pulled the trigger a couple of months ago on a 2015 ES 350 with nowhere near that much discounted. Good luck with your decision and purchase.
