Default Transmission whine

Hi all. I have a 2013 ES350 with 3,000 miles on her. Has anyone ever heard a whine coming from the trany as it shifts? To me, it sounds like a power steering pump whine, but not as loud. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First off, you need to calm down. Not everyone has time to constantly check posts and respond. Your post has only been up for a day!

No one has responded probably because most don't have this problem and your post isn't very descriptive. Idk what kind of response you're expecting...but I think most will tell you to go to the dealer to have it diagnosed, especially since it's still under warranty.

Do a search to see if others experience this, but I doubt you'll find much.

While I might be curious to know who peed in your coffee, I will say that, even though there are a good number of people on this board who regularly go out of their way to be helpful, a post like the one that I quoted is only likely to lead others to completely ignore any posts that you might make in the future, even by the people who otherwise would be inclined to be helpful. I can only imagine how you might react to a reply that you don't like.

Yikes. It's not just the transmission that's whining.

I can only speak for myself, but I've not found another forum that is more informative, friendly, so professionally addressed, and simply downright helpful. Your post is insulting and adversarial. This is not the way to obtain info, make new friends, and become a member of a really knowledgeable bunch of car people.

If I had an answer for you I would offer it.

My guess would be the characteristic sound of Motor Generator 2 (MG2) as it spins and reverses through its planetary gearset. Normal

Does the ES350 have a MG2 motor?

Nope. The 350 does not have a motor generator. Not having heard the should the best thing to do would be to take it to the dealer. The good thing is that if you create a record with the dealer if this problem rears it's ugly head after your warranty expires you will have a legitimate case. Lexus Corporate is more reasonable, even though most of the dealers I have worked with lose interest right after one drives off with a new car. They appear to be only incentivized to push cars off their lots. Keeping customers happy is an illusion they maintain.

I must concur with bc6152 that this forum has amazingly nice, knowledgeable, pleasant and funny people. Check out the "blinker fluid" thread. I bet you will not find anything comparable anywhere. It is a pleasure to correspond with them. People just tend to be busy and sometimes they don't say anything because they don't have anything constructive to offer.

Here, I ran a search for you:

Result 1

Result 2

I haven't experienced the issue you describe, which is why I didn't respond. If you would have come back with something a little more civil, someone else probably would have helped you in searching.

Our 13 ES350 does it some. I noticed it when my wife was backing it out as you could hear it when in gear. We took it in and the dealer said it was normal as they heard it on others as well.

Hopefully this is the case and the tranny won't blow out of warranty

I also notice it more when it's been run for a while and is fairly hot outside.

If you are concerned with the whine from the transmission when the gear is in reverse, this is perfectly normal. I was also concerned about the whine in the reverse gear. I was informed that it is normal and I can confirm it is normal to hear the whine in reverse gear. I heard the same whine when a Mercedes benz was backing out, and also a toyota sienna.
