I have a 3 year lease on my car with 1000 miles at the moment. Can someone please tell me what sort of maintenance will I need, how often and how much will they cost?

I am not sure if the lease requires you to do anything different but I doubt it. Every 10,000 miles ask for an oil change and tire rotation. This should be less than $100. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed and again about $100. Every 20,000 miles change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. The cabin air filter can be bought at Walmart for $18, It is the Fram Fresh Breeze #10285 with carbon and baking soda to filter the air. Wiper blade inserts again can be bought at Lexus Parts World for $20 for both refills and takes five minutes to replace. You are done until 100,000 miles. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. If you go in an ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Once a year replace the key fob battery cr2032. Keep receipts for everything.

Yeah I was quite impressed when I saw the maintenance schedule for our new ES.

0W-20 oil....which is (by design) fully synthetic only. We drive the car about 10K miles/yr, so that translates into 1 oil change a year, even by Lexus's schedule. I normally change my oil myself, but for 1 trip a year to the dealer....Ill let them get dirty.

Its also nice that it doesn't require more than 87 octane (although Id probably run 89 anyway)

My family owns a 2013 ES350, and when ever you purchase a new Lexus your first two years of scheduled maintenance is free, ours ended this month.So every 10,000 miles, they check tires, rotate and balance, oil, battery, rubber parts for premature deterioration, etc. and let's not forget the complimentary car washes.

Unless your dealer is adding on extra free maintenance coverage on its own, that information is not correct. The only free maintenance visits that Lexus includes with a new vehicle are the 6 month or 5000 mile maintenance, which is only a tire rotation and vehicle inspection, and the 1 year or 10,000 mile maintenance, which includes an oil change, tire rotation, and vehicle inspection.

Thats how I read it also...not first 2 YEARS, but first 2 MAINTENANCES are free.

Maybe in '13 it was different?

It's also a good idea for the OP to get familiar with details of the maintenance schedule in the owners manual. It's best to follow the required maintenance items and avoid dealer "recommended" services which are usually just profitable add ons and not really necessary.

This is really good advice. As a new owner, follow the manufacturer's recommendations for maintenance - not the dealer's recommendations or schedule.

Go in at 5K (free), 10K (free), 20K, 30K, 40K, 50K miles because those are the major services that include oil changes. Skip the 15K, 25K, 35K, 45K miles because those are just tire rotations and inspections. Do not accept any "dealer suggested" items, just stick to the book which can be found at drivers.lexus.com

Not accounting for tires, you'll probably be spending less than $1000 to maintain it during the lease, depending on how many miles you drive (10K miles/year).

Only if you don't mind accelerated tire wear. The ES is a front heavy FWD car, and will be hard on front tires. If you stretch out tire rotations to every 10k instead of every 5k miles, it will significantly shorten tire life.

I would recommend rotating the tires at the 5k intervals between the 10k oil changes.

But seriously, I wouldn't take it to the dealer for rotations. Take it to a place like NTB, where you can usually have them rotate them for free.

Oops. Meant to say is skip dealer and take it to a tire shop to get tires rotated for free. Car will remind you of the 5K mile services, so just get the tires rotated and reset the light yourself.

Yeah I wouldn't pay the dealer $100 to rotate the tires.

What are we responsible for at the end of lease? I'm assuming good tread on tires and what else?
