Lesz states a good point: If BMW, Audi, and Benz can do 15k changes using full synthetic oil, then Lexus can as well. I changed mine the other day and it was so clean that I had to look twice to read the dipstick. The oil was 10 months old...
BMW uses a special Long Life oil. You can't buy this at wally world or at auto parts stores.
BMW Longlife-04 (BMW LL-04)Special BMW approval for fully synthetic long-life oil. Viscosities are SAE 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30 and 5W-40. Usually required for BMWs equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Can also be used where a BMW Longlife-98 or BMW Longlife-01 oil is recommended.BMW Longlife-12 (BMW LL-12)Special motor oil for certain approved gasoline engines and the following diesel engines only: Nx7K1, Nx7U1, Nx7O1 from model year 2013. Not suitable for engines with 2 or 3 turbos.BMW Longlife-14+ (BMW LL-14+)Special motor oil for the following gasoline engines only: N20, Bx8 from model year 2014. Not allowed for diesel engines.

Just because they put their name on it, that doesn't make it better, or even different, than what you can buy anywhere. Just more profit for them!

A video is available on youtube. Takes about 15 minutes and costs about $35.00 + your labor.

It's a BMW spec'd oil available from several major oil vendors like Castrol.
It is spec'd to be able to maintain adequate lubrication and detergency for 15K oil changes. Look it up.

Default Lexus oil change needs to be between 3-5k with synthetic oils too

With regard to "pushing the limits", my guess would be that Toyota/Lexus is actually being at least somewhat conservative. Other manufacturers, like BMW, are now using a 15,000 mile oil change interval with full synthetic oil, and I can't imagine that their production tolerances are significantly better than those of Toyota/Lexus or that their recommended oil is that much superior to that of Toyota/Lexus to allow for oil change intervals 50% greater than that of Toyota/Lexus.

The maintenance required light goes on at 5000 mile intervals, but the recommended maintenance at the intermediate intervals calls only for tire rotations and inspections.
There is a Toyota Certified Master technician who has a YouTube channel for these kind of issues and fixes. Please watch it. He recommends the synthetic oil also needs to be changed every 3-5 000 miles. The Dealership tells you to change oil every 10k miles within the 2 years complimentary service after new car purchase but changes the statement back to 5 k once past 2 years.

Had a 07 GS450h using conventional oil going 7-10k oill change intervals, ran it up to 263k with no problems.

Currently 13' ES300h has 228k miles now and using regular synthetic mixed with extended and going 13-18k between changes.
