smart key battery - 15k mile service?
I'm taking my car in for the 15k mile service next week and just ordered a wix air filter, and see the smart key battery is due to be replaced.
-does anyone know what size it is? how do you take the key apart?
I'm afraid to ask what the lexus battery goes for...
any other ideas to save $ on the normal service intervals?
fwiw, the ford remote (not smart key lasted 8 years) it was a small barrel type about half the size of a AAA battery.

Owner's manual page 719 (in the 2014 manual, may be a different page in 2013) shows the procedure for replacing the battery. It's VERY easy to do.
It's a standard CR2032 (button) lithium battery, available at corner stores for about $1.

There should be something in the owners manual with battery type and instructions on opening the case. it's pretty straight forward and the replacement battery is readily available.
Look on your dealerships web site under Service Specials. They often have coupons or a % off on various services. Usually its not too much, but you can save a few bucks.

The battery is a CR2032 available at Radio Shack as well as many drugstores and is easy to replace following the instructions in the owner's manual. I usually replace mine at a18 months on a 36 months lease but kind of think they would last the full 3 years. And I believe your car will even give you a warning of low key fob battery. I don't think I would consider having the dealer replace it as some do it for free and others might charge as much as $40 for the $1 battery.

Most of the service items are "Inspect". I always ask the dealer to for specific services such as oil, brake, coolant etc...instead of " service interval" package. I could "inspect" everything else myself. Plus there are many great diy out there (for instance, I would save 50 changing the air and cabin filter myself)
Some might argue that it might affect the resale values but I usually keep the car for a long long time.

just ordered the wix air cabin filter on amazon.
and will pick up the CR2032 battery.
I should have no problems changing either.
I feel its always easier to save a buck, then earn one!
Thanks guys!

My dealer changes them for free as long as you own the car. Check it out maybe yours will too.
