Default Wheel keys

Another dumb question, ( you'll find I tend to ask a lot of dumb questions ) but here goes... My new car has 18 inch rims with a locking lug on each wheel.... shouldn't I have been given some sort of key for that locking lug? Hate like hell to have a flat tire and not be able to change it....

Check the spare tire storage kit for it. Before I left the dealer I made sure it was there and that it fit each wheel.

There is a plastic organizer 'plate', on top of your spare. You will find the 'security lug key', in this. This, typically is where Toyota places this Item. And... the only 'dumb questions', are the ones you don't ask.

Another tip: Don't lose it as they are difficult to replace. Even more important if you get a flat...

Good Luck with the car and ask as many questions as you like. A lot of knowledge here and good people on this forum more than willing to answer anyone's questions.

There should be a card with the key number you can use to get a replacement--keep it safe in the house.

I suggest you order a spare key and leave it in the glove compartment. Protects you in the event a mechanic forgets to replace your key in the trunk.

Or use a label maker to put your name and phone# on it.

And when you have your tires rotate ALWAYS check and make sure the Tech put the key back before leaving the dealership.

I don't like dealing with this wheel lock issue and either don't get the locks - requires a special order - or have them removed and replaced with regular lug bolts. I have to wonder if wheel theft is even a problem with stock wheels.

Dave- Good point. I don't expect to see theft of the stock ES, especially the 300h.

Our Techs have a complete set of locking lug nut "keys" to use for the 5k services. They don't even look for
the customer's. Vital to have of course for the Road Side Assistance guys however!
