setting trip monitor
Well I've had my car for almost a year now, and wanted to verify the mileage I'm getting. So I went into settings (on the steering wheel) and couldn't find out how to do it. I then went into "info" on the menu and still couldn't figure it out. Are there no trip settings? Cannot one do a setting to determine how far a destination is by setting to zero and reading the trip monitor upon arrival? If there is I couldn't find it... I did see a setting oin the steering wheel which showed "average MPG".
but wanted to calculate it myself.

If you want to reset the car's mpg "after refueling" calculation, when it is being displayed, just press and hold the display button on the steering wheel. If, on the other hand, you want to calculate your own gas mileage, you can use one of the two trip odometers . You access the trip odometers via the odo button that is behind and to the left of the steering wheel. Each press of the button will cycle you through the main odometer and the two trip odometers. You can reset either of the trip odometers by pressing and holding the odo button while the trip odometer is being displayed.

Thanks to Jollick and Lesz. Both of you answered my question...

I haven't tested this with the Lexus yet, but Trip A (if it is like other Toyota cars I've owned) gets reset to zero when you take your car in for service and they reset the maintenance interval indicator. To be safe, I'd use Trip B for your long term mileage records.

OK Thanks, good idea...

It was not reset when I brought mine in for its 5k service. I use "A" all the time for gas mileage calculations.

I can't say whether it is the case with the 2013 ES because I haven't had my first maintenance with it yet, but, with the 2006 ES that I previously owned and with my GX, it is fairly easy to accidentally reset the trip odometer when resetting the maintenance reminder.

Same here. My A is also used for milage calcs and at the 5k service it wasn't touched. I think the service guy may have reset the A by accident toggling for the actual odom.

Quick review of the mileage tools we have, trip A & B are distance only, hard keys on the lower left side.
Right steering wheel spoke toggle, "After Refueling" resets itself when...you refuel. (Doesn't have to be a fill-up)
"Average MPG" has the most flexibility. If left unreset it will accumulate data for 10k miles. Everytime you do reset it check out the Nav screen display Menu/Fuel Economy/Past Record (History on Non-Nav). Note that the date at bottom of the graph now has todays date. Want to reset every Monday morning and compare cold weeks to warm? Want to reset before a different driving routine? Outbound and inbound legs of a commute?
Notice also that while the DIC (by the speedo) has elapsed time and average speed that remain until reset, the
Trip Information (both Nav & non) starts out fresh each trip. Range matches the DIC display of course.

Save all your receipts and divide by the odometer? The dash reading will begin a rolling average if left alone.
