BUT...from a content perspective if you look at the features we're talking about on a new ES vs that 1992 ES, which didn't even have a trip computer...and when you factor in that relative to inflation the price of an ES hasn't grown, its actually probably gone down some, you can see some of the reason for that.
My Dad had a 1990 Lincoln Continental, which was the same as a 92 Continental which was similar in price to a 92 ES, both V6 FWD. Lincoln was bigger. The ES had much nicer materials inside, but from a technology standpoint the Lincoln had WAY more features. Trip computer, fully digital gauges (which back then were cool), air suspension, automatic high beams, auto dimming mirrors, full power seats, power trunk.
Would you rather drive a 1992 ES or a 2013 ES today? I've been a huge detractor of the decisions Lexus has made with materials on this car but I'd rather have the 2013. Lexus vehicles always had great quality, but were feature light. Now we have more features and less quality...
And the mouse controllers lexus are using are a massive compromise because the Germans also do them. Touch screen is far more intuitive.

What about it doesn't it do for you? It's far superior than the one I had in my 2009 Sonata and what's in my wife's 2010 CR-V. I won't even mention the crap navigation units I've had in GM vehicles.

I had a 2010 ES350, the first year with the HD nav. I now have a 2013 Audi with MMI/NAV (Google Maps, Street View, Online Destinations etc.) but there are several features the Lexus navigation had that the Audi doesn't, and I miss them. I really liked the system in the Lexus and I'm sure the one in the new gen is just as good and probably better.

I'm a bit puzzled by something. You have posted numerous times repeating your long list of complaints about the 2013 ES. You think that the nav system is antiquated. You don't like the placement of the nav screen or the fact that it isn't a touch screen nav system. You don't think that there is enough head room in the ES for someone a little over 6 feet tall. You don't like the analog clock. You want the ES to have more Android compatibility than it does. You want a fully leather covered steering wheel and don't like wood and leather steering wheel that the Lexus has. You don't like the quality of the ML sound system. You don't think that the ventilated seats are good enough. I could go on with a good number of other complaints that you have expressed in this thread about the ES, but the ones that I have repeated here make it clear that, long ago, you should have decided that the ES is not the vehicle for you. Fortunately, there are plenty of other vehicle choices, and, it being the case that the ES is clearly not the vehicle for you, I have a hard time understanding why you have a need to keep coming back to a Lexus owners forum as if to try to convince everyone else that it is not the vehicle for him/her and to convince those who have bought a 2013 ES and really like their vehicles that they have made the wrong choice. The tone of these repeated posts comes across as nothing more than trolling.
As the owner of a 2013 ES and the former owner of a 2006 ES, I consider the nav screen and system of the 2013 ES to be a vast improvement over that of the 2006 ES. The use of a mouse allows for several advantages. First, it allows the screen to positioned much further forward. That position allows the driver to glance at the screen with only a simple movement of the eye, and it makes it unnecessary for the driver to have to turn his/her head away from the road, which allows for safer and less distracted driving. Additionally, placing the screen further forward allows it to be recessed in a way that it doesn't get washed out by sunlight. With my 2006, the position of the screen and the quality of the screen itself made it impossible or difficult to view the screen in many daylight situations. Further, the quality of the mapping and the ability to use voice commands, while not perfect, are still noticeably better than that of the 2006.
With regard to the quality of materials, I'll repeat what I said in another thread. There is no question that there is a difference between the interior feel of the 2006 ES and the 2013 ES, but I'm not sure that I'd describe it as a difference in quality. The 2006 has a more traditional and softer feel of luxury. The 2013 has a more contemporary high tech feel with with more angular lines and more contemporary accents like chrome trim and the black console accent. That same more contemporary look can also be found in the vehicles from BMW, Audi, and other manufacturers compared to the look and feel of their vehicles from a decade ago. You either like the changes or you don't, but I don't feel any less pampered in my 2013 ES than I did in my 2006 ES. To the contrary, I appreciate improvements such as the way that the cup holders in the 2013 ES are nicely integrated into the console, instead of the flimsy pop-out cup holders in the 2006.

I agree that the styling direction is more modern, but modern doesn't mean "hard & thin".
