Default Anyone tried the K&N air filter for the 300h?

I'm wondering about any power increase or better gas mileage. I assume that you get both since you allow the 4 cylinder engine to breathe easier. I doubt anyone will dyno their car or take it to the track to see improved 0-60 times. But MPG's could be measured pretty easily. In sport mode, I've done 0-60 in 8.1 seconds. I'm wondering if I could possibly get 8.0 flat with a K&N air filter.

Remove your existing air filter and use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the loose dirt and dust in the air filter housing. Then punch 25 holes in the air filter using a 1/2 inch drill bit. Then re-install the air filter to evaluate engine power. See any difference in power? Answer : No

You'll usually see improvements if you use a K&N filter with a CAI also.

Buy a K&N filter for its longevity. They're easy to clean and reuse.

Probably get the good initial acceleration from the torque of the electric motor, not from the 4 cylinder gas.

From what I've seen/read around the internet, no modern engine will benefit from just a CAI. You also have to do a tune and a more free flowing exhaust to really get a noticeable improvement.

They all compliment each other, but a CAI kit will add HP.

I've used several Stillen kits on my Infiniti's that were marvelous.

All without added exhaust.

I have used K&F air filters and never seen a horsepower improvement, so I have to agree with Txes it's the longevity. And fairly easy to clean and reuse. If you get the cone style you get a better sound and it feels a little better torq. The funny thing I always got better fuel economy with the original air filter Vs the K&F filter......weird.....

Why would you be looking at more performance with a 300h? Oxymoron don't you think? Reason I got the 350 instead. Better MPG "might" possible thou. Might.

Not really. You can get both more performance and more mpg with a high flow air filter. At least I know I did on other cars I've had before with K&Ns.

You could argue the same thing about the "Sport" mode on the car. Why even have this on a hybrid when you're trying to save gas? But to me, some days it's great to just throw it into sport mode, lay the hammer down, and not care about mpg. It's fun!

performance and MPGs don't really go hand in hand, because performance is mostly realized at Wide Open Throttle (open loop fueling mode) and MPG gains are most realized at cruise(closed loop fueling mode) in which the ecu is self adjusting trying to keep Air Fuel Ratios at 14.3. Also note you want your hybrid to run in EV mode as much as possible, so doing that will help your MPGs.

If you want MPG gains you need to improve efficiency of the vehicle during cruising. The cheapest and best modification is your driving style.
