Default 2013 ES300h

Hello. First time here.

This forum was very useful in gathering information and reviews about the 2013 ES300h.
It allowed me to make better and educated decisions in the car buying process and set correct expectations.

I took delivery of our 2013 ES300h yesterday ( Oct 31st ).
Color: Silver Metallic
Interior: Light Grey
Options: Standard Luxury package, Navigation, HID, Blind Spot monitor, Body side moldings, Accessory package, Michelin Primacy tires.
State: South Carolina.

Out-the-door Price: $44k

The dealer already had put in a tank of gas and the car had 8 miles.
MPG on a 235 miles of non-stop Interstate driving with speeds ( 65 and 80 MPH ): 39.6

Driving experience: Very comfortable and quiet. Cannot tell ( as in loud noise etc ) when you are driving at 80MPH. The "direction assist" feature was very cool. The operator was able to download the relevant point-of-interest to the navigation system seamlessly.

Questions for the forum:
1. Dealer is recommending we get extra warranty that is above and beyond the first 48 months..Is is a good idea?
2. Dealer is recommending we purchase some sort of a one-time clear coat appearance package..Is this a good idea?

Here's a breakdown of the warranty on a 2013 Lexus ES300h.

Warranty
48/50,000 Basic (mths/miles):
72/70,000 Powertrain (mths/miles):
72/unlimited Corrosion Perforation (mths/miles):
48/unlimited Roadside Assistance (mths/miles):
12/10,000 Maintenance (mths/miles):
48/50,000 Accessories (mths/miles):
96/100,000 Hybrid Electrical Components (mths/miles):

The lifespan of the Ni-MH batteries is what I'm concerned about. 8 months should be long enough to know if you're going to keep the vehicle forever.

In my opinion, don't spend your hard-earned dollar on an extended warranty. As everyone knows, Toyota/Lexus rarely breakdown (knock on wood). Recalls, yes. But thankfully, no breakdowns. Put that money aside for when you really need it.

I've been debating the extended warranty. One advantage is it's transferable. I'm selling my 2007 Camry Hybrid with 75k miles on it.. Along with it goes a 100,000 mile extended warranty with 25k left and good to August 2014. A definite plus. There is a $70 transfer fee.

You don't need to purchase an extended warranty at this time. You can do it just prior to your factory warranty expiring. So waiting is your best option. Also, you can purchase this extended warranty, if you choose to, from Jerry Johnson at the Toyota Midwest Superstore. His email address is: JerryJ@midwestsuperstore.com. He has the best pricing in the nation. You'll get a platinum Lexus warranty that is good at any Lexus dealer. I got this for my 2007 ES350 when the original warranty was expiring.

I got the Platinum for my 2007 Camry from Greenfield Toyota in Mass. for $900, almost half of what my dealer wanted. I dealt with Troy,(413) 772-0231. I'll check with Jerry too. Thanks

First, congratulations on the new car.

Yes, I would recommend you get a clear bra from the dealership especially if you do a lot of highway driving. If you do mostly city commuting, then 'No' to the clear bra.

I'm a hyper-miler and have a '11 ES 350 with no clear bra and have to get it detailed to remove the road rash and bugs. I won't make the same mistake with the '13 ES300h. I will most definitely pay for the dealer installed clear bra.

No and no to both. There's a reason why we buy a Lexus.
IMHO
