Default paint protection

I ordered a paint protection kit and attempted to install it on my new es 300h. The process was easy on the front hood, fenders and mirrors. However, the front bumper posed a difficult. First the front bumper was one piece. Second, it was slippery with the solution on it. So it fell and i had to rinse the dirty off and third the material folded on it self and i had to pull it apart. Well, I took to the dealership and had it removed and installed professionally. It looks great. the protection film is awesome but it is best done by the professionals.

did you have to let the pieces dry or cure for a couple of days? or did you drive off as soon as it was installed?

This is really something you need to let a professional do...

If your'e already paying 40K plus for a car, it's well worth the few extra bucks to have something like this done professionally.

My price for it was 650 installed by the dealership. How much would it cost by itself ?

You can also save some money and get a quality installation at a good, reputable shop. The dealers contract out this type of work to local shops anyway.

Another local shop estimated 650-700 as well but getting it at the dealership before taking delivery was really convenient.

Virtually every Lexus my dealership sells comes with the paint protection already installed, so unless you special order a car you're forced to buy it. I believe it adds about $450 to the cost of the car.

Update: My bad. Just checked my paperwork. Paint protection was $599. Like I said, it wasn't an option. It had already been applied before I considered buying it.

Jetman, was it a dealer added option or factory installed (ie part of the original sticker price )

There is a factory option but that doesn't include the front bumper, as far as I know

It was dealer-added (not on the window sticker, but added to the invoice/receipt). Don't know if includes the bumper. It's dark and raining now; I'll check tomorrow and let you know.

I've never done this before but consider doing this by my dealer. I understand this is one of the features they sell. Several questions and appreciate someone can answer..

1. Is this some kind of film? clear film?
2. Once put on, how can I clean or wax the car?
3. Do they put over the entire car exterior or just the front part of the car?
4. Does it really work protecting from stone chip?

I just ordered an ES 300h and I'm looking around for the same 3M film protection. Did you get the 3M Ventureshield or the 3M Scotchguard version ? Durabilibity and mil thicknesses may be different.

Did you also get the headlight and foglight film protection ? With headlight covers being clear, hard plastic that dulls with driving time, I would think that would be a great application as well.
My only concern is whether film on headlights would be O.K. with HID lights. Don't HID lights give off a lot of heat or not ........hence risk of blistering ?

Can you apply paint protection to the entire body?
