Mihink - this doesn't sound right.

Per Costco's website:

"Low, prearranged pricing for Costco members"

I have used the program a couple of times with the same favorable results. Per the program outline, the dealer is required to show you the dealer invoice and tell you exactly how much over invoice you would be paying. There is no haggling. I suggest you call them and get clarification.

FWIW, I looked at the email I received from my last request. It clearly states "View the Costco Member-Only Price Sheet, which shows your exclusive prearranged Costco member savings."

Good luck!

I purchased the base model, and had a trade-in so not comparable, but the dealer said they couldn't keep the hybrids in stock and as far as the base model goes, didn't expect to get but one every other month. They had half a dozen or so of the premium, luxury versions on the lot. I was able to get the purchase price down to the local "true market" number as shown on Edmunds, and got a very good value on the trade. I actually was on the way to the BMW dealer to look at a 2 yr old 525i, and just stopped by the Lexus dealer as I was driving by. I've had both BMW and Lexus cars and had good experiences with both.

And you can also do MUCH better than buying services like Costco if you negotiate yourself

Actually, I have found Costco to be the best haggling 'tool' around. Other dealers are anxious and happy to 'beat' the Costco deal and, since Costco prices are generally pretty low, they know they have to step up to the plate to get your business - you can end up getting a real fantastic deal. It is fun to see the dealers squirm a bit...

Its a tool, but for instance the Costco price on my new GS was $3k more than what I negotiated with minimum effort. On our Jeep we got last year I was able to do $2k better.

I absolutely hate haggling. For some people, it's a sport but I'm a very straightforward person. I don't BS and don't like it when people BS with me.

But I admire strong negotiators

my deal was pretty straight forward. told them I was looking at camry hybrid, and es300h. depending on where the numbers landed would make my decision. only $6600 more for the ES, and its a year model newer.

seemed like easy decision... hope I was right LOL.

(trying to pump up my post count a bit for better access? guess that's necessary here? in the TOS..)

one problem I had on this (black) car is some scratches in the clear coat.

by the time I finished my paperwork it was dark out, but I saw some on the RF fender and swirl marks, in other areas. I refused to take the car yesterday. (thank GOD for cell phone flashlights!)

got them to agree to re-detail (they said it was 'buffed') in Jan. -should I let them touch it?

looks just like clear coat, but damn its a new car... shouldn't have that.

I would not let them touch it. Dealer detail shops are awful, they'll screw it up worse and just hide it under some glaze.

Ask them for $150!service credit or something and have it done somewhere else.

Most often, the detail specialists are sub contractors to the dealerships.
