ES300h Gas mileage

We have had our 2013 Leuxs ES 300H since mid Oct 2012, we are finding that the stated 40 city and 39 highway mileage is not achievable! After driving 11 K miles our overall AVERAGE is aprox 32 to 35 miles, we have recently voiced our concerns to the dealer. We are wondering what other drivers are getting in their numbers? Anxiously awaiting what others are getting, thanks.
I drive pretty hard and still average over 36 easily, I think you're doing something wrong....
my last tank was 36.8mpg but I didn't reset the ODO for a few miles, and was not trying to save gas.

Hey guys,
You'll have to reduce speed if you want to better 40 mpg ... the gov't calculate mpg at a max 90 kph in Canada or at max. 55 mph in US and with slow starts of about 20 sec. to US 55 mph ... That's what I call «extra slow usage» ... It's impossible to compare that to mpg at US 75 mph and rabbit starts ...
Also, I pay attention to the kind of gas I'm using ... In Canada, if I use Irving gas as compared to a few independent gas stations, my mileage can improve by up to 20% ...

For a car of this size, even getting just 35 miles per gallon is pretty good. Keep in mind that the difference in fuel consumption from 35 miles per gallon to 40 miles per gallon on a typical tank full (15 gallons) is only about 2 gallons of gas.
Driving most comparable cars the same way would only deliver about 15-20 miles per gallon. So you are still getting about double the fuel efficiency of what most cars would get.

I'm averaging 26 MPG, in my 350, for almost 4k miles.

I noticed the last 2 fill ups the INITIAL mpg was terrible. This is because I filled up locally, then drove on local streets for the 1st 10-20miles. my mpg's were showing around 26-30 mpg!
Only when I got on the highway was I able to get back in the the high 30's mpg.
(in the past I was filling up near I95, then getting on the highway and driving for 30-40 min... which boosted the MPG's)
after 2 days I'm back to 38-39 mpg. (my normal average).

"I'm averaging 26 MPG, in my 350, for almost 4k miles" I had a 2010 ES350 and with careful driving averaged about that. But with a heavy foot as most drivers have, that number would drop dramatically. Magically, when my wife drove the car, fuel economy dropped to the low 20s.

300h MPG update
Well now that the winter is long gone I am getting around 40MPG again.
In the winter I avg. around 36-38 MPG when the temps were under 35-40 degs.
Found something this week, Driving on flat roads in NJ (No hills) I got OVER 43MPG for a 300+ mile trip doing 65 to 75 MPH most of the time. and not trying to conserve at all.
Here in NY we don't have many roads without hills.( at least where I drive), so I only get around 40 MPG
I have 4,750 miles on the car now.

I can get 40-44 on highway driving , flat roads, 55mph. I have been averaging 36-38. I only have 1000 miles on the car. I had a 250h before and you really have to learn how to drive a hybrid to maximize mileage. More coasting whenever possible, gradual braking and eco mode at all times.

That will usually cause the car to go into ev mode and then you can cruise at that speed mostly in ev mode by staying light on the accelerator. I've been doing that for the last several tanks and have been getting my best mileage driving that way in the city. I have also used sport mode on the highway and it gets me as good or better mileage than eco or normal. Best Highway speed I have found is 70 mph.

Still disappointed. I have tried this for the past 2 tanks, each of which was about half highway, half local, and I'm getting just 35 mpg.
Coming up on 6 months, with 4500 miles, almost due for first service. Should I ask dealer about the mileage?

I would think there is no harm in bringing it up with the dealer to see if they can see any obvious reason for the mileage being what it is, but I suspect they won't find anything significant, and will just give you tips on how to get the best gas mileage. Your mileage probably isn't far enough off the rating for them to consider it a problem. I think you will just have to experiment with various techniques and see what works best for you.
I hope either way you can improve your mileage to a point where you are content with it.

The best way to achieve the highest MPG is using cruise control. I can easily achieve 44mpg at 65mph on the highway. Avoid staying in EV mode for long durations unless your driving in a 25mph zone. If you read the manual it states that draining the battery will cause lower MPGs over time and lower the battery life. CRUISE CONTROL CRUISE CONTROL...it keeps the throttle much more steady then our our feets which tend to gas and pull , gas and pull. My average over the winter has been 41mpg. Now thats its hitting 80s and 90s im averaging 38mpg with the AC blasting and not thinking too much about staring at the EV meter. Just make sure to accelerate smoothly and hit in cruise as much as possible. If i try and hypermile and squeeze every mpg out i can get 45mpg.
